Correct me if I am wrong, but the new turbocharged motor used in the Malibu (and other GM cars) looks like a much better motor.

No idea if it would fit into a Sonic but it does seem to fit in the Buick version of the Cruze.

The LNF, LHU, and LTG engines are all SIDI 2.0T engines. All flavors have been talked about at great length in many other threads.

Summary of those discussions: A swap is doable, but requires a fair amount of fabrication and regular injections of large quantities of cash.

The 1.6T from the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa OPC/VXR is a bolt in swap. You just have to find one in Europe and have it shipped over.

I saw that one. I tried doing a google search to find where to grab one but came up with nothing.

I kind of doubt it. The Cruze diesel was supposed to already be here, but it seems to get delayed six months every six months.

Yes the gasoline powered version will. GM announced in August it would go into the Sonic in two years. The same announcement said it would not go into the Cruze, much to the dismay of some Cruze fans.

That announcement began speculation about a Sonic wearing the SS emblem as it rolled off the final assembly line.

There are 2 different 1.6T engines. There is one that has been used for the past few years in the cars I already mentioned. It has Multi-Point fuel injection.

The one laborsmith brought up is the new Direct Injection version. This is the one that has not gone into production yet

Per the Editor's Note in my last link the new DI 1.6T started production in December. That would be the one I speculate will be around 200HP when it arrives stateside. I am thinking it is 190HP in Europe, but need to find the August 2012 announcement to be sure.

LLU is 180HP and LDW is 192HP. I can't tell which version is slated for the Sonic. LLU reaches peak HP at 5500rpm while LDW at 6500rpm.

Could you elaborate? Trifecta has produced some very good results in di engines, altho they do need an oil catchcan for longevity.
