RWD vs. FWD vs. AWD

All of my vehicles up until my 06 grandprix were RWD. After owning many of them for many years my choice is FWD or AWD.
My list would go.
RWD for performance on dry pavement.
FWD for normal daily use and in rain, snow, imperfect surfaces, dirt roads etc.
AWD for more control under all conditions but it of course comes at the cost of weight.
After owning many many RWD vehicles, you guys can keep them. I'll stick with FWD.
4WD trucks don't really do much for me. I've wanted one of these for years though. 6WD with locking diffs. I bet $ub$onic will be all over this.

Snow is actually an area I strongly prefer RWD over FWD. With front drives you more or less have the following options around a turn, Push, push, and more push. Whereas Rwd offers the choice of under steer, oversteer, balanced, or spin out.
IMO this added flexibility is a valuable asset to some drivers, affording more options for recovery when things don't go as planned.
No arguing that rear drives suck taking off in the snow and maintaining control is more cumbersome for many but there's so much they can do that fwd can't
Of course there's AWD & 4WD that's hands down better than both for getting thru crap conditions........ Although I've seen more than a few ppl get lulled into thinking that since their AWD accelerates better in the snow that it must also turn and brake better.

A friend of mine down the road from me has a 69 Deuce. They are awesome! He only paid like 4500 for it too.

That and it seems like you need to have a stub of a cigar stuck in the corner of your teeth while driving it. General etiquette.

My only contribution is that 4WD/AwD does not mean 4-wheel stop
I see so many folks in winter time with 4 wheels of power driving in icy weather like they just stole the car they are in. When They stop they slide off the road like everyone else. Never stopped to see if the AWD helps them get back on the road though.
I will say that I had an opportunity to drive a gen II mini cooper S that had an LSD mechanism that controlled torque steer. The car was really well sorted and understeered far less than our Gen1 version. Like all things technology can help limit weaknesses and play to the strengths of the system.
