I do understand the price factor. I don't understand the "what was available" one; it's a large purchase and there is no reason to knuckle under to dealerships on it: if you want and can afford the 1.4 it is worth driving further or waiting an extra day to get one.
I normally am pretty kind to the 1.8, it is a decent engine, after all. But the 1.4 is simply a better one, and in a thread like this where some folks are trying to make out that there is some kind of trade
off, well I want to see some put up or shut up.
Also, I am annoyed at GM for not offering 1.4 in the LS trim... so I agree it is fair to say it's a $1800 upgrade.
For some drivers it won't be sufficiently better to be worth that much money.
It is still the better engine.
