There is nothing wrong with the 1.8

I do understand the price factor. I don't understand the "what was available" one; it's a large purchase and there is no reason to knuckle under to dealerships on it: if you want and can afford the 1.4 it is worth driving further or waiting an extra day to get one.

I normally am pretty kind to the 1.8, it is a decent engine, after all. But the 1.4 is simply a better one, and in a thread like this where some folks are trying to make out that there is some kind of trade
off, well I want to see some put up or shut up.

Also, I am annoyed at GM for not offering 1.4 in the LS trim... so I agree it is fair to say it's a $1800 upgrade.

For some drivers it won't be sufficiently better to be worth that much money.

It is still the better engine.

Don't always have the option to wait another day for a car to show up. I need a car that day. Waiting two days for them to find and ship one with a 1.4 was not an option, as I would have had to take two days off work. DHS rules blow over stupid **** like having to own the car you drive to the work site.

Why did you wait until you had no transportation to purchase a new vehicle? Did your old vehicle just randomly have catastrophic failure?

Seriously guys, what's the reasoning behind this? Are you always gunning it? Or is it that easy (and that annoying) to have the tcs kick in when you're tuned? Or are you that opposed to driving aids of any sort?

I have the fuse pulled on my Sonic so ST/TC/ABS are off all the time. When it rains is when I cannot stand the aids (when I have the tune enabled).

I believe it'll be better when I purchase new tires. I feel like I have tires from a cozy coupe on my Sonic sometimes with how little traction they provide.

If they're anything like DoD rules then I believe you can get a power of attorney from the car owner or rental company to drive it onto certain restricted government properties. The rules have something to do with liability and the government being self insured. I would honestly take the bus before I got a car that I didn't really want.

On the way home from pricing out a new car, the engine suddenly started running rough and the exhaust looked like a diesel with a power programer and a blow turbo. Needless to say it wasn't going to get me to work the next day.

I still have select a tune but I'm phasing out the use of Eco mode. I just don't really like how the car drives in that mode.

I do like to switch to Eco mode for going through fast food drive-thrus. It's easier (IMO) to move just a little bit in Eco mode.

I have selectatune so I can pick between red pill and blue pill E85 tuning. I understand why the rest of you don't have this, since you don't have the red pill yet. I also barely use blue pill, just for comparison purposes. Low end of each gear is no different one way or the other, and if I want the high end, why not the real high end?

Back when I had performance/eco, I got better mpg with performance, but it was handy having eco for when other people were driving. Now, well, they just have to get used to the power, because even blue pill is about 70hp over stock design, and I don't have an "easy mode" available for them.

You get used to it pretty fast really, and now my HGF is getting nearly as bad as I am, I think she wants revenge for all the times I pushed her into the door or onto my lap. Lucky they put Oh Jesus handles over all four doors!

I thought it was pretty cool that they put OSB (oh sh!t bars) on all four corners, as for anyone else needing to handle the extra kick from the tune I don't let anyone drive my car so its not really a problem anyway.

Back to OP's topic though, Is this your own lil butt hurt 1.8 thread?

Not sure what the OSB is good for on the driver side, but yeah all three passengers may well need... I hope driver is using the wheel for that purpose!

(edit)Oh wait... is it for auto drivers? I drive stick, left hand is always on the wheel in case right needs to shift!

I use the wheel and arm rest as my OSB, but I'm sure the driver side could be handy for getting out of the car if you had bad knees/hip

Yea never got that "It's all they had at the dealership thing" Seen it on a lot of car forums I wish I had gotten this color, option, deal, trans etc....

Some local dealers have had many Sonics 1.8 and 1.4t's all autos.

I didn't want an auto. I'd check back from time to time and still not manuals on the lot. Got the dealer BS that they could order one. Yea no thanks I'll wait till I find one on the lot.

Knew I had a day off coming up, Went on web, found 1.4t LT I wanted, drove to go get it.

We haz interbez use it.

Don't settle when your spending that kind of money on something.

Would I have prefered the 1.4? Sure, but going in I had no reason to exclude the 1.8. If I had thetime to order or wait for a dealer trade, then I would have probably gone with a 1.4. I had a need to be able to work the next day and per the rules we were given, cant park a car that is not in your name in the lot. I wasnt going to take my chances with cab service either.

The 1.8 does what I need it to do, and that is get me to and from work in an economical manner without having to worry about the car breaking down on me. I have no regrets about going with the 1.8L.
