OR have only ever had girlfriends and can therefore afford something much more interesting than a Sonic or Genesis.
amiright?
No.

Am I the only one around here that buys cars on a credit card( not all the way on the card, dealership only let me put 10k on my card which they said was an exception due to my purchase history there) and pays it off the next day?
plus at 45, you should be married with kids, not a girlfriend
Sincerely,
21 year old college student who bought his own Sonic.
For what it is the Sonic is a great car. It's inexpensive to own and operate, great for a college student who's parents can buy them a brand new car.
I've never really understood this thinking, being an adult =/= buying big expensive car, read "The millionaire next door".

1.I thought the fishy new car smell in the Sonic would not last. but damn as the summer got hotter it got worse!
This smell is in rare instances, it is fixed by changing the cabin air filter.
-1 point for you
2. The Genesis coupe is awesome! Great torque out of a 2.0 4 banger! And the ECM can be flashed for more power. (maybe someday) Stock it is 260 HP with reg unleaded and 274 with 92+ octane. That is at about 25mpg avg. has a great stereo and Bluetooth for the phone. I do miss the 35 or so MPG of the Sonic. Oh well gotta pay to play.
Any ECU can be tuned for more power, and still get amazing mileage and the Sonic 1.4T has great torque too. You are saying nothing new here
- 1 point for you
3. Mid life crisis?? Most definitely! Actually it is my second. I bought an 02 Camaro SS the last year of the old body style. Now that car was fun!
-5 points for each mid-life crisis while not being married
4. Genesis has absolutely no headroom in back seat. Luckily my kid is grown and has her own car. I am torn on missing my Sonic for the MPG or enjoying a more refined ride. I got the genesis for 25 grand before tax tags and title. Sticker was like 27800.00 I was upside down on my trade of the Sonic by 3 or 4 grand so I lost my ass. Just my experience and my two cents.
I think this is infinity points for GM, Chevy, and the Sonic
The only other instance of the fishy smell I have heard of Is Edmunds long termer. I was reading about that before they even posted a thread on this forum about it.. However GM replaced the seats in their car, and the smell remained. Whether it was something else or the smell just lingered who knows.
I foresee the OP trading in a ten month old Genesis coupe and "losing his ass" on it because he's still upside down.
$3-4k upside down on a car as cheap as a Sonic? What was the trade in value at 27k miles?
And then you roll that negative equity into another brand new car? I can't fathom that people actually do this to themselves.

Sorry if it seems like I'm busting on you, but I just don't get it. Unless you have disposable income, but then why buy a Sonic?
damn this guy is gettin DA BIDDNIZZ for trading lol.. im not gonna lie I went to trade mine for a BRZ, I called my insurance company and they said they would drop me.. cuz I have tickets n stuff.. then I went further n they said they would give me 9900 for my sonic.. I was like yeap im out.. Do what makes you happy tho man, the more I have the sonic the more I fall in love with it, haha Im 20 years old with a divorce now.. so I think RoXXXanne is my gf now.. and im gonna continue to spoil hergood luck with the new ride!

You're 20 years old and divorced? Had a pretty good run there eh?![]()
I never understood this thinking either.
I could have afforded much "flashier" and expensive cars instead of my Sierra w/t (as basic as you can get) and Sonic, heck I could have afforded "loaded" trims for either.
Instead I opted for the trims and models that suited my transportation and work needs the best, the rest is just "excess" with a premium $$$ slapped on.
Both do the job they were intended for. My truck was used to haul my bike and get to work/school moderately cheap. It did that quite well and now is parked for when I need to do things only a truck can do.
The Sonic was selected as a great MPG commuter that had to have room for friends and be fun to drive. The only cars that were even close to fitting the bill was a Cruze ECO or a Hybrid. The Cruze ECO was quite a bit more and didn't offer me anything that the Sonic wouldn't do, and they still don't make hybrids that are anywhere near as fun or efficient as they should be. Anything "fancier" was significantly more expensive and more compromised to my total needs than a Sonic
So 1.4 M/T LT it was (i went fancy with power windows)
If you were to offer me a 2013 BMW 750LI (over $100k car) I would take it. Sell it. By the same Sonic and pay off my house.
What's the point of living in excess?
Haha nice.
I don't have a credit card but I always put alot down on any big purchases (and pay everything else up front).
My truck I paid half up front and the rest the next day.
The sonic I'd put like 1/3 down by the time I refinanced at my home bank and was paying double on my car payments until being on strike and no layed off for many months.
And yea I'm only 24 and putting myself thru school for a second time. Not rich just willing to sacrifice the cool, flashy stuff for the things I need or really, really want.
