Well, I think I found a short term acceptable solution to my "bleached" black plastic problem. I had a hunch that a product by Turtlewax made to restore faded trim on a car might actually be the cure for the Turtlewax product that did the damage in the first place. My hunch was correct and it turns out I've eliminated about 90% of the "white" with several applications of this:

I may have to continue to keep applying it, but for now that looks to be a quick fix to the problem, short of painting it.

As you can see in this pic, the white is hardly evident on the front grill plastic piece, and not evident at all on the rear view mirror:

Yeah, right?! That's what I'm sayin'! I wonder if they created the label remover first and discovered how badly it F'd up plastic, so they decided to create the restorer to "undo" the damage of their first product.

I used that exact product to remove those horrid dealership stickers from my car. But I was very careful about it. The label says "Do not use on plastic or glass." When I sprayed the stickers, I did so lightly, with a towel underneath it. waited a minute, removed the sticker, cleaned up the residue, then went immediately to the car wash, and cleaned the car.
Got to be careful with things like that..

Actually, it doesn't say that at all. The label actually states:

"Safe for use on all non-porous surfaces including glass, metal, plastic and automotive paint."

The "non-porous" part is the important thing to pay attention to. On plastic with a smooth surface, it should be just fine.

It actually works great on paint. It did an awesome job of cleaning off the residue from the "SONIC LTZ" letters that I pealed off the day after purchasing.

The bottle apparently didn't explicitly state not to use it on plastic. Anyway, the ether softened the plastic while the acetone aided and 'bleached' out the black dye. Acetone by itself would do that, but the ether just sped up the process.

Had the same problem. You can also use armor all wich is used to clean the dash of the interior. It took the white stains off looked like new.

Yup stuff is great, easy to spray on w/o damaging anything. Any "remover" product that has a small nozzle like goo gone should be applied very cautiously or they would have made it a spray bottle.
