Water outlet estimate question - coolant leak

I would agree that changing over the whole housing to an aluminum one makes sense if needed, however for a quick fix I have just replaced the thermostat with the aluminum version. I am at 160k miles and have done my thermostat twice and never had the housing leak.

If you do just replaced the thermostat you should put antiseeze on the 4 bolts to make them easier to remove next time.

It might be best to install the whole housing and t-stat. Then remove the T-stat and put anti size on the bolts.

I actually bought just the thermostat on Amazon for $27. That was a mistake. While removing the old thermostat, I broke one of the bolts. Seems that Chevy didn't bother with stainless bolts, and they rusted. Can't drill out the bolt, because it is screwed into a sleeve in the plastic housing, and you end up destroying the housing.

Since I have to have a car for work, I had to go to my local auto parts store and buy the housing/thermostat for $135. Should have bought the housing in the first place.

At least I now have heat again. Good thing because it's 14 below zero tonight.
