Y Japanese ? Y not any brand or country of origin
Ah-so!! Y = Why... now your reply makes sense to me. Thanks for the clarification.
I do have several vintage American, English and Swedish axes as well. It is just that the build qualities on the years that constitute vintage Japanese guitars (late 60's to mid 80's) are better by and large in most any respect you can think of.
Wood quality and species, pups, hardware, ancillary build materials, workmanship and so on and so on and so on.
As distasteful as it was initially I have come to accept that the great majority of what The Big Three were churning out as guitars during those years was crummy to be frank. Not that every instrument was bad, but in total during that particular time frame they are not near the quality of Japanese instruments, and I am not even factoring in the differences in price, which could easily run from 3-10 times more for an American badge.
I've probably played, handled or inspected over 2000 individual guitars in my years searching them out and my above assessment has been borne out with far too great a frequency to be happenstance or some fluke... at least in my experience.
But YMMV of course. Do you have any axes yourself or just a passing interest?
