redline at 6500?...last time I had a 1 liter triple it redlined at 10,000 and was fast as hell...It didn't even have a turbo...(only weighed 500 lbs though).
Why do they knock the redline back so far for a car?
gdideric, it's all about torque. The car engine needs to have longer stroke to get better torque to move that 3000 lbs. With longer stroke, the max piston speed goes up, so the rpm redline has to come down.
The Triumph Speed Triple 1050cc, has 130hp at 9500RPM, but only 80ft-lbs at 7700RPM
Ecoboost 1.0T__bore/stroke= 3.1/3.2 = 0.97___6500RPM
Ecotec 1.4T_______2.85/3.3 = 0.86__________6500RPM
Speed Triple______3.1/2.8 = 1.1___________10,000RPM
Yamaha R6_______2.58/1.75 = 1.5_________16,000RPM
F1 Racecar_________98/40 = 2.4_________~20,000RPM
