Two small problems with my RS

Hi everyone, I have a little over 500 miles on my Sonic and it already has two issues and since I'm new to owning a new car I was curious as to if any of you were familiar with these issues or if they're covered under warranty.

First, I just noticed today that there is a small white rub mark on my rear driver side quarter panel (I know for a fact that I haven't hit anything as I baby the car, and if someone were to hit me I would have surely heard the alarm sound). Another curious note is that it is a vertical scratch and not a horizontal one. It really isn't noticeable from a distance but if you're looking for it, it's there. That really bothers me being that it has just shy over 500 miles.

Second, there is a small squeak toward the back of the car immediately after I shift gears, most noticeable between 1st and 2nd. Is this an issue with the transmission or is this a problem with my shifting mannerisms, or is it just still getting broken in? This is my first time owning a manual as well so I'm not familiar with what to expect.

Thanks Eric. I'm going to take it up there tomorrow. Just wanted to get my ducks in a row first. I'm afraid to have them look at the scuff just to "buff" it out and put swirl marks all over the bumper. I hate this . If I ever see a hit and run they better hope that they drive faster than my rage.

Thanks, I will keep you posted. If I had somewhere to dock my phone I would try to shoot a video of the squeak/chirp I'm experiencing. It's very subtle and it doesn't happen every time. Sometime it's only 1st to 2nd, other times it's all the way to 6th.

Scuff looks like it will buff out

Definitely. Rub it with a little bit of rubbing compound on a soft rag or microfiber cloth, I all but guarantee it will go away, or at the very least be hardly noticeable.

EDIT: I didn't see all of the scuff, but most of it will probably rub off, what won't can be sanded lightly with fine sandpaper and buffed.

The best time to notice a paint defect or any damage is during a walk-around prior to taking delivery. I generally look at fitment issues, and especially for paint problems with the sales representative before even opening a door.
Once it is in your possession, the dealer has to use their discretion as to who's liable for this type of repair.

Remember: The technician that was responsible for the pre-delivery service and inspection most likely signed off on your vehicle noting no defects.

Yeah, and they sold it to me at night with very little light so I wouldn't have noticed this type of thing. This is the crooked **** that some dealers do. Just saying.

I got all that fixed.. im talking about within the past 3 weeks.. my back bumper my passenger side door and one above my wheel

I have an RS with 1600 miles so far and no unusual sounds when shifting.

Hey bud! The Spot is a defect that was fixed at the plant. I had one and spoke with the plant manager he said it happens at times they removed a blemmish in the paint shop and did not buff it with enough wax. I rewaxed that area 3 times and now it is gone. You will notice there is little no no orange peel on that spot! Thats what you are up against. It is hard to see onless you are in the correct glare of that area. No worries.

As for noises wait till you hit 2000 miles if there is still any noise then have the dealer look at it. your suspension and body are still settling in.
