A flaw in the design of the Sonic's stock Jack?

As Opticon said, that's why I use a real jack. The only reason I haven't chucked that "jack" Chevy gives us is in case I ever get a flat. Knock on wood...

I always put blocks under all tires when I have a car elevated for any reason.

Looks to me as if the OP understood the pics just fine.

I thought that notch was plastic because it is coated with something and feels plastic if you tap it (on mine anyway).....but looking at it from underneath....it looks pretty solid.

I always use a standard floor jack on my car. I never use the pinch weld. Front subframe or rear axle. If Ihave access (depends on the car) I use the support that the rear twist beam is mounted to.

I ended up using my SUV jack anyway....hopefully I did not damage anything.

I took a couple of shots of the spare while I had it out..... didn't realize it wasn't full size. Hopefully I'll never need the little guy.

The OP (me) understood the errors of my ways thanks to Eric's pic. I had already used the SUV jack before I started the thread. Sorry for any confusion....Don't want to end any budding friendships over a little misinterpretation .

Concerning the question about denting the floor. No dents were observed. Upon closer look at my picture number 4 below you can see that the notched piece of metal appears to be the same piece that curves and turns under the floor where I put the jack.

Everyone is so passionate about their help here. That is why I love this site.

Which brings me to another issue I just encountered. I cannot get my phone charger to work in the sonic. I plug it into my SUV it lights up. I plug it into the sonic (cigarette lighter location between front seats) and nothing. I tried with the car on and off and nothing. Please tell me I am doing something wrong again and correct me in the error of my ways.

Good suggestion. The car has been sitting a couple hours since I got home from work. I just plugged in my air compressor and it started right up :banana:

I then plugged in my charger and it lit..... wierd.

I didn't even need to start the car up....just insert and turn the key. Not sure why It did not work the previous times I tried while driving home from work today when I really needed it.

Oh well, live and learn

I had my phone charger stop working for a while, I thought it was the charger. I tried it for grins a few days later and magically it worked...go figure?

The original jack was designed to work with the pinch weld just a Eric and Theenico pointed out. If you want to jack your car up inboard of that, good luck. The jack doesnt have a flaw, you're just using it wrong. Anyone whose worked with sheet metal knows a flanged edge is much stronger than a flat surface. Just my $0.02.
