open downpipe?

I thought it was established that the turbo was integrated into the exhaust manifold?
Also, without upgrading the turbo, what kind of gains do you expect you'll see with just a better turbo manifold?

None, the stock turbo is integrated into the exhaust manifold....lol
If these guys get there header/manifold they will be looking at a completely stock turbo set up off the head back, from the exhaust to charge pipe.
Side note, VTuner's does modify the stock turbo to flow a little better but from the prices I have seen they want a ton of money for what they do.

Not true.
As others have stated...this is inaccurate. The turbo itself is a restriction in the exhaust system providing bp. Behind the turbo, meaning down-pipe back, the less restriction...the better (as long as you don't get creep). That is why you find significant power gains when doing larger diameter exhaust systems on turbo cars than the neglible ammounts that are seen on n/a cars. The turbo can spin easier getting the exhaust out and pulling in more air with less work/inertia. It's not unheard of pulling 10whp/15wtq off a KO3/4 setup with upgrading the down-pipe alone.
If you where to introduce backpressure after the turbo, it can have a negative effect. It can cause the turbine to "backspin" damaging the turbo but at the same time making the coolest turbo sound.
I have seen folks in untuned cars doing this; running crappy and spewing black smoke as the are revving at me. Blow off valves a-going, then I hear that "whistling-stuttering" down spool.....cha-cha-cha-cha, have fun reassembling your snail buddy!

I've seen hot sides get ruined by just running open dump, not to mention your car will run like ****, most likely melt things in the engine bay, not to be a dick or anything but these cars aren't meant to be any faster than they already are. you want a fast car go buy an evo or something.

I know they're not race cars but they can easily and relatively safely be made quite a bit faster.
Although, I wouldn't run an open downpipe either.
...and last time I checked an evo is about 2-3 times the price with half to a third of the fuel economy

Probably me he was pulling out! I laughed when the guy said he could pull me out when I got high centered on the crown of a narrow road with around 30000 in the trailer. Cummins got the last laugh. That is why I would buy a dodge truck before any other.

No engine requires back pressure!!! While Every exhaust has some back pressure be it a lawn mower or top fuel dragster but it is a byproduct, not some mystical force that makes an engine run.
Ask a world renowned engine builder (Gale Banks, David Vizard, Bob Norwood, etc) what the ideal back pressure is for your car, see what they say. They could give you a good combinations of pipe dia and lengths from the header to collector, mid pipe to tail pipe. But not back pressure. Its all about flow and velocity...... well and pressure waves and some misc factors
A good exhaust is not created by throwing **** together until X inches of water is reached (ie back pressure). It is made by selecting proper pipe size to get the ideal amount flow vs velocity in the desired RPM range. I'm going to refrain from going into pressure wave tuning.
Unique to turbo engines is that they are hugely insensitve to exhaust backpressure (I'm keeping it simple) after the turbine so long as adequate flow is allowed and the downpipe is long enough to convert exhaust flow from axial to turbulent flow. Too short of a pipe post turbo can actually decrease flow and/or throw of the O2 sensor.
