Wow! Ford Ecoboost 1.0L 3-cyl Turbo

I've been reading about Ford Ecoboost 1.0L 3-cyl Turbo. Wow, this thing is awesome! They are supposed to bring it to the USA for the Fiesta this year.
123 hp ; 148 ft-lbs and kick-arse mpg, >20% better than the 1.6L

On the Ford UK website, the Fiesta brochure lists (watch out for Imperial gallons, all these numbers in US units) Note: their mileage tests are a different standard, just for comparison purposes.

Urban / Extra-Urban / Combined in mpg(US)

1.0L Ecoboost (123 hp) 5-spd manual 44 / 63 / 59 (with auto stop-start)

1.25L Duratec (80 hp) 5-spd manual 35 / 56 / 45

1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT (103hp**) auto-6 28 / 52 / 40

**103 hp seems very low for a 1.6L NA, it may be detuned for fuel economy?

I'm excited for this version of the Fiesta as well. IIRC it was announced a while back that it will only be available in a MT in the states.

I understand being excited about a new vehicle, but if I started a thread about individual components on all the things coming to the market they would get locked down. All I'm saying is why start a new thread about things we have discussed many times already.

A while back I took one of the (then) new Fiesta for a test drive. The acceleration from the 1.6L with an auto was sluggish, although the vehicle itself was decent. Also test drove the Focus (not the current gen, the one prior). It had good pickup but with the more efficient new model coming it didn't make sense to pay roughly the same price for less car. Ended up just getting a used Civic to hold me over. Now THAT's a nice performing sub compact, but also much more expensive new than either of the Ford offerings.

I test drove a Fiesta before falling in love via test drive of a Sonic. I found it adequate, but underwhelming, like every other car in the segment I drove. The Sonic wasn't even on my radar until I test drove it, its handling, feedback, solidity, responsiveness, everything beat every other car, including the Fiesta, that I drove.

My current Sonic, with nearly double the power, better wheels, so on and so forth, blows that initial Sonic out of the water as well.

But I'm still interested in this Ford engine, because it seems to me it's going the same right direction as the 1.4T Sonic; smaller engine because usually you don't need much power, so why not run something cheaper, turbo because it allows you to get lots of power out of that tiny engine when you need it.

Look at the Spark, the current "tiny car" option Chevy offers. Tiny engine, great idea? No, because since they didn't put turbo or some kind of electric boost or something in, it's ALWAYS got a tiny engine, when you need more power there's nothing there.

I want more manufacturers to jump on the Tiny+Turbo bandwagon... even though I wouldn't personally buy a Fiesta with that engine, not because of the engine, but because all the other factors that make the Sonic better than Fiesta still won't be there, just as I wouldn't have bought an Aevo if they'd put the 1.4T in it. Sucks + better engine = still sucks.

True. When i went to go look at the sonic, they asked how can i help you? I responded idk what i am looking for. Hell i dont know why im here lol. It has been an overall a good car for me though.

redline at 6500?...last time I had a 1 liter triple it redlined at 10,000 and was fast as hell...It didn't even have a turbo...(only weighed 500 lbs though).

Why do they knock the redline back so far for a car?

I was there to look at the dodge dart. It was gonna be like 400 a month. So i went back out on the lot and i saw the orange hb and was like whats that. Test drive and took it home. I was amazed chevy made such a amazing small car

I 100% agree with this statement. I was not impressed with the fiesta at all. Ya if you just wanted a car it does that great. But one drive in the sonic was like how In the hell did they get this Car so great with a simple redesign

I want the days when every car came with either a v6 or v8, no questions, no choices.

Was it before/after the more aggressive emissions standards? From what I understand, it's harder to get that MPG now from larger engines without shutting down cylinders, etc. They may not get as good MPG, but they spew out less toxic stuff from the tail pipe (?).

Its a 94 so it has a few emissions but not as bad as today
