Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

Way to go Maddog! ( I spent about two years of my life finding a way to buy a bottle of that stuff nearly every night and probably responsible for many of the weird stories I have )

You can never tell who's behind these kinds of forums or who may be their sugar daddy or billionaire suitor. Nobody touched THIS post so I'm inclined to believe it's taboo here. I swear when I built my solar array, all of the guys operating the forum were I went for help were oil guys, or guys heavily invested in oil. I was discouraged the whole way along, them telling me what I was doing wouldn't work, wouldn't have a positive roi. ha. There were even users there that called them on it from time to time.

Nevertheless, when\if I get the time\money, probably spring, I'm going to build one of those contraptions and come back here and .

And post some great numbers...hopefully! Then if you move to Florida with all the sunshine they have...who knows what the possibilities are?

It is too crowded down there for me.

Last year when I went down I was in a Honda Fit.
I had trouble getting in and out of crowded lanes because I had no acceleration. (south fla, not cozy keys)

Bumper to bumper at 75-80mph worried about getting a ticket for driving so insane, ...and a cop passes me all nonchalantly in a line of traffic moving nearly 90. Now when I go down there in my tuned turbo sonic, I like it. It's like there are no rules compared to where I live and the turbo makes snatching lanes a breeze.

Then you hit Palm Coast and traffic hits a brick wall.

This colder weather, short trip city driving for work, and winter blend have really put a hurt on my average economy. Cantwait for warmer weather. Might be time to make a block off for the grill. Really need a WAI too. Intake temps are struggling to getmore than 10-15* above ambient over the past few days.

Thought about it, but I have a hard time justifying spending that kind of money on a tube with a filter.

it is the only warm air intake on the market. probably a good investment for MPG gains.

Any intake that terminates in the engine bay and does not have a block off seperating the filter from the engine bay heat will function just as well. It would take a long time to recoupe the cost of the intake. At my average fuel cost itwould take a savings of about 72.5 gallons of fuel to hit a break even with an assumed price of $250 for the intake.

I would have to save 72.5 gallons worth of fuel. Not after using a total of 72.5, but save 72.5 on top of my normal usage. That would either take on hell of an increase in economy or a whole lot of miles of driving.

ah, I suppose that makes much more sense. hahaha. For a cost effective mod, it's not really worth it. haha.

Over the last 905 miles I have averaged 32.1. Not horrible, but below what I would prefer. I know whats killing the economy right now and i cant really do anything about it. Most of that driving has been short trip city for work and around town BS. Very little highway so far this year. I dont know of any long highway runs coming up till spring time, so I wont have a pure highway run in the winter. I suspect the best gains from an intake would be on the highway.

those are pretty good numbers for primarily city. I expect, although it hasn't been tested, that the Injen would help MPG in most driving situations, not just highway.

I would expect it to help some in the city, but its main area of improvement would probably be highway.

Its a bit of a pain to keep the numbers where they are given the current driving circumstances. Thankfully my morning commute is mostly traffic free. the commute home blows though. If driven right a 1.8/5mt is not all that bad on economy.

oh, you have a 1.8 too? those aren't bad numbers at all then. I'd say you're doing pretty good. I know rdss gets similar numbers driving solely city and he has the 1.4.

Yep, the unapprciated 1.8L.

I suspect that I would do worse with a 1.4. I love the sounds that turbos make and as a result would use it to much.

1.8 Automatic. So far I am at 31.8 combined mpg. Calculated - the dash computer seems to be right on the money so far.

OK. I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend $300 on a dry cell hydrogen generator.

I contacted the place (hydroclubusa) and am waiting to hear if their gizmo will work on my car.

They have several different packages, some include a Volo which is something I don't think I need or even know about.

They are promising more power with better gas mileage (for real).
It would be cool if the hydrogen also helped reduced turbo lag.

The place is super swell and they'll offer me help but I wanted to leave a trail here because I know you mileage guys are intense and inquisitive.

Having only ever come across one of these systems in the real world, I advise you to be careful. The one I came across saw its biggest gains from the modified oxygen sensor signal. Essentially they were using a false reading to cause a lean running condition.
