Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

just filled up..293 miles/9.335 gas = 31.38mpg.. a little low...but
Quick trip gas, 10% ethanol, new engine less than 300 miles on the car.

For fun, I may put in 93 octane (got a BP coupon for $.20/gallon off) and see. I THINK...that gas doesn't have ethanol in it.

I was driving very carefully too, as much 6th gear as possible...

Well that was interesting - inflated my tires to 40 PSI last night, and drove to work this AM. Only used defrost to clean the window first thing, then used vent/floor. Outside temperature is 9*F, wind was a side wind of about 6 MPH. Reset the DIC when I pulled out of the driveway.

The drive is 10% town and 90% highway as follows:
-1.5 miles at 30. 3 stop signs
- 9 miles at 60
- 1 mile at 30
- 7 miles at 60
- .5 miles at 40
- 7 miles at 60
- slow for left hand turn
- 8 miles at 60
- 1 mile at 30, 1 stop sign

This morning's reading, 8.6L/100km, or 26.4 US MPG.

Also of note, when I changed highways (left hand turn), accelerated and relocked the cruise, the tranny seemed to prefer 5th, and ran at 3000 RPM, vs. the 2100 or so RPM it runs in 6th. I slowed down a few MPH, then when I reaccelerated, it found 6th fine.

Can't say I find that mileage overly impressive, and I am driving grandpa style. Ideas, or should we wait until I do some pen and paper calculations?

Mine has gone down considerably since I sit and let the car heat up and the snow melt. 27.5 last I checked I hope the groundhog was right when he said an early spring

This winter has caused my average economy to take a beating. Doesnt help that a lot of my driving has been city for the past months. I am over due for a decent highway trip.

Well, got 33.5 mpg on the way home yesterday while driving 55 with a 10 mph tailwind.

Felt like I was crawling though. Ambient temperature was warmer at 17f.

Guess I'll hold off on any judgements for a few months.......

did a quick fill up yesterday, had only gone 90 miles...and that had a lot of city in it... 2.334 gallons or 38.56 mpg...whoa...so the key is to fill up every other day! NOT

More weight = greater inertia = more mpg

nope, you still have to pull all the extra weight along. ever driven a truck with a loaded trailer?

Yes and no your fuel used to get to that speed out weights the amount saved

the only place that extra weight will come in handy is coasting down a hill. But you have to get that weight up the hill in the first place so its mute point.
