Official: Ordered Chevy Sonic Crew

Just called my salesperson and he got the Order Number immediately after I told him to look for a 6 digit alphanumeric. Going on 2 weeks and GMConnects merely says it has been entered into the system: CT000 Which makes me think they may have just entered it today... If that's the case, it's good I called!

OK, more progress at GMConnects, but curious why it took 12 days for the dealer to get their allocation.

01/06/2012 (1100) Order placed at dealership. Order passed GM edit tables but dealer has not received allocation to place order.
01/06/2012 (1102) Order entered via web.
01/17/2012 (2000) Order accepted by GM. Dealer used allocation to place order into production.
01/17/2012 (2500) Order preferenced. Order pulled to the production system.
01/17/2012 (3000) Order accepted by production control. Parts being ordered and production process is underway.

Orders are entered and the order number assigned w/o human interference.
GM returned to work mode from the Winter Break January 9. Allocations would have come out the following Thursday (Jan 12) and the first opportunity for an allocation to be used (which requires a Chevy employee at HQ) would be the following Tuesday (Jan 17). Retail sales are always picked before dealer stock, so once the order was entered everything that followed and will follow will be done by Chevy until the car is on the ground and delivered to the buyer.

Except the dealer (say at customer request) can modify up to 2500 and w/ Chevy's permission even at 3000. Chevy does not normally accept a change after 2500 but it has happened. Other than getting a order number once the order goes in, there are no rules that govern the process, just patterns and exceptions to the patterns. - Laborsmith

I bad. Three things are certain:
1: Order number creation as stated.
2: Allocations come out on Thursday and orders are picked the following Tuesday.
3: VINs become available when the car is assembled (3800).

More significant than 3000 as the inventory computer says parts are on hand or near enough. One can get hung up in 3000 for a long while. Next is 3300, which means production control has given the go ahead. After that, 3400 means scheduled for production and the Target Production Week (TPW) is set, but GMConnects does not have direct access to the TPW so I phone call to your salesperson will get that.

Once you get to 3100, there should be no more delays as regards production but there is no set number of days from 3100 to 3400. Just know everything is stable now, which was not true between 1100 and 3000 and will not be true after 3800. You'all are getting close now. Yes!

I ordered my sonic the first week of December. They said the plant was shut down for 2 weeks in december for the holidays but now i found out my production week isn't till 2/13/12 so i have to wait at least an additional month for it to come in probably closer to the beginning of march. Stinks but i can't wait to get it.

They will spend a day or 2 at 3300 then they will hit 3400 and that's where the car actually gets built. 3400 takes about 2 weeks.

3400 is when the week the car will be built is set. That week will be either the next following (a few days, say) or the following (ten or so days). The week scheduled almost alwqys begins on the Monday.

3800 will come when it is built, then the VIN appears.

Double clicking the VIN will bring up the Window Sticker page.
When the Window Sticker appears, the car is being loaded and on its way to the dealer.

Has it been a week? It is normal to take several days so I would expect a change very soon. And these status changes are not always linear. Although to my memory no Sonic has advanced to 3300 then gone back to 3000 or 3100, I know that has happened with other Chevy model lines.

3400 is the signal that all the parts are at hand. With 3400 comes the TPW, and that is one of the most stable predictions in this process, and as you both have seen this is not the most stable process.

And Sonic production is now competing with the Buick Verano start up which begam not too long ago.

silversurfer et al: just checked the constraints and the turbo 1LZ is at 25%. That means some of the 3300s but not all will advance to 3400 this week and more in the following weeks. I am not sure how the ones to be advanced are picked. But the good news is that these are now moving to production once again and yours will be among them.

Those who have not been following this thread should know the turbo LTZ has had a rocky road, first caught up in the constraint on all turbos going back to August and then on their own constraint, then not or only partially constrained, then at the end of December once again constrained, and now partially constrained.

Any of you who follow Corvette constraints will think "deja vu all over again."
So, if it helps, this pattern is not unique to the Sonic.
