Six letters or five letters and one number; for example ABCDEF OR ABCD2G.

This will identify the build from the beginning (first entering of the order in the computer) to the end, and will be on the "Window Sticker" when the vehicle is finally sold.

Your dealer can give it to you just as soon as the order is keyed in. I get it before I leave the dealership whenever I order. My insistence causes some discomfort, but until I have it, the dealer does not have my deposit.

dvn: This coming week should tell if it will be an extended wait. Once production stabilizes, it is five to six weeks from the date of an order's acceptance (2000) to delivery to the dealer. Be sure to post when you go to 2000 and 2500. As you may already have a TPW, delivery to your dealer takes at least a week before leaving the plant after assembly, usually two weeks, and depending on where your dealer is, it can take a day to another week or two to get to the dealer.

BryanAndrew appears to have one of the turbocharged LTZ orders that was first held up in production due to a engineering validation and then got caught in a Quality Check hold. Either one is frustrating, both together doubles down. But he was not alone, as it appears every early order 1LZ went through either one or both.

Well another Tuesday gone by and still nothing. Should I call my dealer?

Wednesday, if there is no update, then call your dealer.

Although orders are picked on Tuesday, the server is updated in the course of the evening and night and not completed until around 7 or 8 Wednesday morning and the GMConnects sweeps start picking them up about then.

That will be 2000, use of an allocation. Next will be 2500, Chevy accepts the use of the allocation, and will come quickly after 2000, sometimes the same day, sometimes not for a day or two.

01/12/2012 (1100) Order placed at dealership. Order passed GM edit tables but dealer has not received allocation to place order.
01/12/2012 (1102) Order entered via web.

I know that's not very far in the process, but I'm happy to get this far with it:banana:

silversurfer: two of the codes indicate retail customer order, which means a dealer allocation will be used to pick for production before a dealer allocation is used for inventory. The interior code now means dark titanium not sport red.

Yes it is! Yours went much quicker than mine though. I suppose my delay was due to ordering during the holidays and the constraint.

Good show to both of you. I suspect the wait for DVN was more related to the winter break than any constraint. Another week and you could be at 3300 then 3400.

3400 means you will be scheduled to be built either the next week or as is more usual the following week.

Now you are seeing why I call ordering an E ticket ride.

Just thought I would add that the next several status changes can take place any day and be picked up by GMConnects. It is the initial use of allocation (2000) that Chevy does on Tuesdays and does not show up on GMConnects until Wednesday.

My understanding is that if "it's in the system" then there is an order number. And it's BS that they made you pay a deposit. They are being shady. I would tell them you want your deposit back. If the car arrives and you decide you don't want it they will have no problem selling it to someone else. There is NO reason for you to pay a deposit. It's a $17,500 Sonic, not a $105,000 ZR1.

Sonic is right and my long established practice is "no order number, no deposit."

An order goes in through the ORDER WORKBENCH, and can immediately be printed out. Some dealers will let you take the two page document with you, some will not, but all can give you the the six character alphanumeric order number before you leave their building. This is one of the few things in this process that is always true.

My dealer told me essentially the same thing you were told.......

I ordered my Sonic on 1/11/12, put a deposit down, and signed what I'd call a pre-order "window sticker-like" document that listed the options I ordered along with a price estimate. At that point, I really didn't understand the importance or significance of order numbers.....even though the dealer said they'd call me later with an order number with which I could track the build of my Sonic.

Later, I joined this forum, and discovered the usefulness and significance of order numbers. I called my dealer on 1/16/12 to inquire about my order numberand was basically told......"we don't have an order number yet, but we'll let you know immediately when we do".....Frankly, after hearing that, I speculated they hadn't even ordered the car yet.....but I'd already decided that I'd be patient through this ordering process.....so I didn't push it much......fortunately, it turns out my speculation was probably wrong....

The next day (yesterday 1/17/12) the dealer called me with the order number and I was able to start tracking the order through GM Connects.......

In retrospect, and given what I've learned on this forum from folks like Sonic and Laborsmith.........I'd never again leave a deposit for a car order without obtaining an order number before I left the dealership....it's not distrust of the dealer (my experience with the dealer has been very positive, professional and friendly) it's just a piece of mind issue for me....there seems to be so many things that can hold up or slow down an order, I'd prefer to in the future to reduce the possibility that the dealer delays ordering the vehicle for a few days for whatever reason.....

So......long way to my answer to your question.........but I bet your dealer does have your order number.....I think I'd ask again

Here's a somewhat related question: at what point is the VIN available in the order process??

The order number is created as soon as the dealer keys the order into the Order Workbench. Dealers as a matter of their own preference key all orders in at one time, usually after Thursday when they get their allocations, but they can key an individual order in any time, just as you can order products over the internet 24/7. No human response is needed to create the order number.

How do I know? Personal experience. I have an order number in hand BEFORE I leave the dealer a deposit. Sometimes I sit there with check book in hand for a quarter hour or more while behind the scenes people try to determine if I am right. These people are the dealer sales staff, who should know what can be done but apparently do not.

Other than Corvette, the VIN becomes available at 3800 (vehicle is built).

The Corvette VIN becomes available when it is scheduled for production and your dealer can get it by contacting the factory.

Note: Becomes available. Not the same as created, as all Chevy VINs are created when scheduled for production (3400), only the Corvette VIN is available before the completion of production.
