Official: Ordered Chevy Sonic Crew

Has it been a week? It is normal to take several days so I would expect a change very soon. And these status changes are not always linear. Although to my memory no Sonic has advanced to 3300 then gone back to 3000 or 3100, I know that has happened with other Chevy model lines.

3400 is the signal that all the parts are at hand. With 3400 comes the TPW, and that is one of the most stable predictions in this process, and as you both have seen this is not the most stable process.

And Sonic production is now competing with the Buick Verano start up which begam not too long ago.

From your dealer? I know Corvette sometimes has a TPW that early, and by the time they reach 3300 they have an actual build date not just a build week.

I consider this proof of my statement there are no rules and few certainties in the individual vehicle ordering process, just patterns and exceptions to the patterns.

Hmmmmm. I thought we were pretty much on the same schedule. I've been stuck at 3300 since the 20th.

dvn: Per Donlen as of yesterday the partial constraint remains. But with Corprimo moving to a TPW, you should not be too far behind. It IS getting closer.

silversurfer et al: just checked the constraints and the turbo 1LZ is at 25%. That means some of the 3300s but not all will advance to 3400 this week and more in the following weeks. I am not sure how the ones to be advanced are picked. But the good news is that these are now moving to production once again and yours will be among them.

Those who have not been following this thread should know the turbo LTZ has had a rocky road, first caught up in the constraint on all turbos going back to August and then on their own constraint, then not or only partially constrained, then at the end of December once again constrained, and now partially constrained.

Any of you who follow Corvette constraints will think "deja vu all over again."
So, if it helps, this pattern is not unique to the Sonic.

I got the screenshot and am glad you sent it. Your screenshot with the line for the TPW is new to me. I have never seen a GMConnects with that line.

The TPW comes from Chevy, and is their guess on when a vehicle will be assembled and is almost always accurate. But other than Corvettes, I have never heard of a TPW coming out so early in the process. But the process is always improving, ie: until this year you could not get a specific build date unless you were a GM insider, but now Corvette gives it out instead of a TPW.

You ordered the wrong car. For about $500 you can do it for a Corvette. Getting there and overnighting if necessary is your additional expense. An additional or on its own option is Corvette Museum Delivery for about $400. You still have to pay the destination charge even though the Museum is located near the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. Yes, a Car Hauler transports it across the street to the Museum.

OK, called sales person and TPW is Feb 6 - a week and a half after reaching 3400.

01/06/2012 (1100) Order placed at dealership. Order passed GM edit tables but dealer has not received allocation to place order.
01/06/2012 (1102) Order entered via web.
01/17/2012 (2000) Order accepted by GM. Dealer used allocation to place order into production.
01/17/2012 (2500) Order preferenced. Order pulled to the production system.
01/17/2012 (3000) Order accepted by production control. Parts being ordered and production process is underway.
01/19/2012 (3100) Order available to sequence.
01/20/2012 (3300) Order scheduled for production. Order is scheduled into the plant build cycle.
01/25/2012 (3400) Order Broadcast (internal plant paperwork order produced). Order is sent to various build & supplier areas to bring order together.

That is about right, the TPW is at least one week and up to two weeks after getting to 3400. This is the top of the first big hump of the roller coaster, one more hump to get over then to the finish line (on the hauler heading toward the dealer).

That last leg is a long one - Michigan to Alaska. I went to college in Grand Rapids, so have driven that trip quite a few times. I added up my Alaska Highway trips over the years - 20! I think the Sonic will go by rail to Seattle and barge or container ship on up to Anchorage or Seward.

I have often wondered about the path vehicles take to get to Alaska. Hawaii is easy to figure out: big boat from the west coast to an island port, but Alaska is a conundrum. I have thought by rail car but what you posted sounds just as viable.

Pre ordered Sonic

I pre-ordered the Sonic 2LS on 12/18/11 & should be receiving it the week of 1/30/12 thru 2/3/12. I got the Inferno orange color!

They do pull Rail Barges up to Alaska with ocean going tugs. Barges have tracks, and rail cars are rolled right on, fastened down, and taken to Whittier, AK where they connect with the Alaska Railroad.
