Blizzard in KCMO 2-21-2013

I live 23.5 miles from my job...left early...about an hour'ish to get home ...but the scariest drive EVER! Whiteout...you "guess" where the road is.

The Sonic got me home without too many problems. Big drifts or ridges are a show stopper, especially from a stop light or turn.. Nice you can turn the traction off to just power through stuff...I had the revs pretty high there for a bit!

Got stuck at the end of the driveway, but that counts as HOME!

Some shovelling later, she's fully home...

So far, we're probaby at 9" or so, drifts higher

But for a small car, really made it just fine. The highway was mostly pickups and SUV's... about every on/off ramp was a collage of stuck cars or semi's...

With upgraded tires I'm pleased with the Sonic's abilities in snow.

Might be getting the same storm in a few days. Kinda hoping not.

You guys have taken a beating this year!

I think that some steelies with winter tires...the car wouldn't even hesitate on drifts or such... The ability to turn the traction control mostly off, helps a lot!

You guys have taken a beating this year!

I've lucked out, most of the worse weather has been to the east and south of Albany. Recently we only got 6" when Boston got 24" and parts of CT got 30+". We actually have no snow on the ground right now. Just small piles from the plows here and there.

I'll easily embrace a few snow storms if it means less oppressive heat the rest of the year. :banana:

Nice photo story of your journey home; bet you were relieved to make it home unscathed. It's stressful driving a new vehicle in these conditions.

This same storm is coming to our territory this evening 02-21-13 starting about 6:00 PM. We are only forcast for 5 to 7 inches of snow.

That's the bad thing about KCMO... They have snow storms and then 100 degree summers.

Yes, and the people who live where it snows would like to move somewhere it doesn't.

I always look forward to the first big snow of the season to play with snow toys; (snowblowers, tractors with chains & dozer blade) but after the first snow the fun is over, and winter then turns into a PITA.

It was quiet a drive,but the Sonic impressed me... I'm really thinking about some steelies and tires... I just know The Red Baron (My name for the car...I've called it I own it!!) would just plow on!

We've had odd winters here lately. Last winter we had about 3" total all winter and a HOT summer. This winter was a repeat, then boom, we got hit.

But I'm sitting here, got a cold beer, warm home... can't really ask for more.
