Windows 8 really isn't that bad, the Metro UI is sloppy for a non touch user so I just cleared every tile off its screen except for the weather tile and desktop. Boot, see weather, then use the desktop for navigation... See I always compute different than other people though, my desktop consists of no icons, not even a recycle bin. I keep my programs on the bottom bar, firefox, photoshop cs3, ccleaner, and windows defender. If I add more programs I would just put them there as shortcuts, since they open up there own tab inside there shortcut it doesn't take up more space. And as for opening videos and pictures I just set it back to standard so I don't go to the metro view for my media... Then deleted IE. It boots much faster than windows 7 probably due to the huge amount of kinks they worked out.
