How are you DOING that?
Once you get above 60 mph in any car, fuel economy starts to really suffer because of drag. Even cruising at 65, my mpg display will settle at about 34 mpg (I reset it while cruising).
Edit: my car is completely stock, no tune, running 87.
About half of my commute is in a construction zone (55 MPH ugh!) and I tried Eric's method of coasting in gear instead of disengaging the clutch or putting it in neutral. So far, so good. Don't worry, my evening commute is all stop and go, so my numbers will drop.
It is not because of drag it is because it is geared higher. There is very little drag difference from a Sonic to a Sonic RS.
what's the difference between coasting in gear and coasting in neutral that you see?
That's why I said that it applies to any car
The gearing on the RS (2800 rpm @ 65 mph? Yuck!) only exacerbates the situation.
I guess what I should have said is that drag really starts to affect cars more above 60 mph (in general)
What does that mean?!
I'm getting 38-40 same driving conditions. Also auto. Slow down.
Gah... I thought you said 85% highway/15% city. My bad.
87 oct.
Best tank 405 miles.
