To an extent I prefer commercial work auto plants and GM Tech Center, but the industrial like USSteel, Severstal, and Marathon have been good learning experiences. I kinda like USS strangely enough. Only been in there for a VFD install and rectifier replacement though. Really strange to be near 700 VDC exposed bus though.

Basically it's kind of like three wastegates (regulators) charging 3 phase pipes above. And then qtr inch lines feeding 3 boost gauges.

Thanks. One of my greatest achievements in my career was winning the statewide California Steamfitter Apprenticeship Competition.

14 locals sent their top apprentices to compete for 2 days. It was written knowledge, detailing/drafting, rigging, soldering, braising, tube bending and rigging.

It's done wonders for my career. I now get so many job offers that I'm never not working....... Unless I don't want to.

Do you guys go through EPRI certification out there?

I'm EPRI certified for high industrial rigging. I have not pursued EPRI cert for instrument tech. It's a long process. First you have to show proof 5 years of contractor experience in instrumentation, and then pay a ton of money to take the classes.

I'm not fond of instrumentation, it just doesn't excite me. But I do know that EPRI certified techs can write their own ticket and work anywhere in the country. The demand is high.

I like heavy industrial piping installation, and uptown pharmaceutical.

I am EPRI Part A Instrumentation and Controls certified. I have yet to actually use it though. Sure I have installed a few thermal couples and RTDs, but other than installing them and running/terminating the wiring I have not done any calibrating of any instruments yet.

It's surprisingly easy.

Most calibration I see in the field is zeroing flow transmitters or setting limits on slam valve relays.

Transmitters are easy. Just pug in a communicator and open the bypass, and reset the input to zero. Hahaha. I've done that for 10 hours straight. Not exciting enough for me.

I imagine when I get close to retirement, I'll wish I had taken instrumentation more seriously. opcorn:

It was masked because it happened as I was crossing the rumble strip to aim the lights at the deer to look lol. TOTAL blonde moment. I think I got hit in the head too many times during the bout last night..lol. It was also 12:45am.
