I never got to the dealer to get it done. Other pressing issues came up, slave cylinder blew out on my way to the dealer.

I don't know anything about the Sonic Automatics. But if you search around for gear ratios, you can compare different gear options between the different Sonic and Cruze trims and likely find a good alternative to your stock gearing.

The M32 6-spd WILL bolt right up to the 1.8.

The question is wether the axles are the same length and same spline pattern. And if the the other two mounting points are the same.

I don't see why they would be different. Also I'd say the MZ0 would be the best option because it was geared for the n/a 1.8. The MZ4 has taller gearing and may appear sluggish without the boost.

I don't have much knowledge this deep into it, but I wonder if it would b e easier to try and change out the individual gear in the current tranny? like get a 5th gear that's like mega overdrive like only go into 5th if ur doin 70+, hmmmm but how practical would that be for the mear 2-4 road trips I make a year,,, I just don't wanna hurt the motor in the long run, doin 3k rpm for 11hrs.. ya know? I don't think it will but.. I know my uncle did some kinda swap work in his 96 impala ss and the 6th gear pulled 16-1800rpm at 80.... getting upper 30s on the highway is a sbc that size is incredible lol or like, I had a 97 ford zx4 lol yes laugh, it was my old gas getter, but it had a button that would lock the tourqe converter I was told so it was like 1 to 1 ratio, if I did it on the highway doin 65+ I would get amazing mileage, id go as far to say I was getting 36-40 mpg.. however that was auto...

Also I am guessing that the ECM in the car is calculating what gear you are in based on engine RPM and speed. Since you have changed your gear ratio's in the transmission, it no longer thinks that you ever get into 6th gear, hence the shift light coming on, even in 6th gear, FYI.

I recently discovered the shift light will come on in 6th with the stock m32 trans.
GM must have forgotten our 7th gear. I feel robbed. :sadbanana:

No need to try it cant be done and if it was even possible a dealer will not likely want the liability.

The cheaper and easier solution is electrical tape. Less Chafeeing and no sore throat

Been a while since I pulled a good "roll" hahaha.

So since I was disappointed with the Forge Recirc BPV feeling and sounding no different than stock, I decided to jump on Sonic24740's super deal on his used Forge BOV.

I just installed it and, while a tad ricey, I think I like it. It's actually not ridiculous sounding and has the crisp hiss I was kind of hoping to get with the BPV.

And I figure with the MZ0 creating early load, I'm not going to lose the almost negligible gains to be had from recircing to the tiny compressor.

I shot a video, but the wind noise was horrible. I'll try to get a better one soon.opcorn:

I think I want one of those forge BOVs, looking forward to the video.. Do you think that's something I could easily do myself with proper instruction or should I have experienced help at the ready??

It is a nightmare of a job. I've done it twice now, and it was still a beast.

I honestly think you would love it based on how much you and you buddy can't get enough of the pshhhhhh.

I could walk you through it, I believe you are capable, but it takes heaps of dexterity and the mental constitution to resist frustration. And the correct tools are essential.

I'll post the second video I took. I apologize for the wind noise. It's almost unbearable. I'll definitely get a better video that displays how good the blowoff sounds soon. It sounds like a cryogenic coffin opening after housing an alien for hundreds of years. The sound is very sci-fi.

I'm getting the Forge astro BOV too and yes it is a pita to install. Talked it over with Slitzell and he said its easier if you have an angled extension for the 3 bolts and a buddy to help hold it in place. Was trying to convince wife to let me buy it and Slit's sound won her over haha *Score* :banana:

I just watched my upload. God that sounds awful, and you can't even hear the BOV. I'll try to find a better way to capture it tomorrow.

I didn't use a swivel either time I installed it. My old cowboy trick is to fold a piece of masking tape on itself, sticky side out, and place it over the torx head bolt. Then you cram the torx driver socket into the bolt to the point where it will not fall off the bolt easily.

The top two bolts are not that bad. It's the bottom one that is the nightmare because you can't even see it. I go blindstyle. I put my finger on the bolt or bolt hole with my left hand and then use my right hand to hold the extension and feel around for my left hand to guide it in. This is coincidentally the exact same technique I use in the bedroom.

Also expect to chew up your forearms. I bled both times. Or I can show you the sharp edge you might want to cover with a rag so you don't draw blood...... Unless you're into that sort of thing.
