More review on the MZ0:

Taking off in 1st has more pull for obvious reasons, i.e. bigger R&P.

At 70mph in 6th I'm at 3k rpm. :blankface:

The shift light comes on even in 6th. WTF?:blankface:

And the Cruze 1.8 must have taller tires because the VSS is reporting 72 when I'm doing 65mph. I'm gonna have Vince fix that for me.

I'm starting to really like the MZ0. It no longer feels like an economy ride. It feels all around more aggressive. I'm a little bummed about losing mpg, but I'll manage.

But I imagine the stock tires would be useless under this kind of power. The KDWs stay grabbing til about 3,800 rpm and then start to slip a little.

Yup.... And my 1st gear is now extremely short. Almost as bad as the RS.

When I go back to the track, it'll be hard to tell what is affecting my time more, the MZ0 or the red pill.

I'm loving the sportiness of the MZ0, but I'm still not sure if it is the right choice for me in the long run.

I have never found my first gear to be "bad". I don't race, but everyday driving I still find it useful.

It's not "bad". It's just that it doesn't allow for much power time. When max boost kicks in, it revs so quickly to 6k that its time to shift before much ground is covered. Not ideal for the qtr mile.

My ideal trans would have 1st, 5th and 6th from the MZ4 and 2nd, 3rd and 4th from the MZ0.opcorn:

You could get close. Put the MZ4 R&P in the MZ0. That takes care of first gear since that ratio is the same in both trans. According to our mates across the pond, 6th gear is swap-able.

Easiest would just be a 6th gear swap. We've discussed how involved a ring and pinion swap would be.

Don't laugh, but I've been taking a second look at the MF3 and starting to feel that it's also a decent choice.

Minus the ridiculous 1st gear of course.

The only differences between the MF3 and MZ4 are:

MF3 vs MZ4
3.83 -- 3.65 R&P (win for MF3)
4.27 -- 3.82 1st (big win for MZ4/0)
2.16 -- 2.05 2nd (small win for MF3)

That 4.27 first gear just kills both the MF3 and MR5 for me.

Looking at the odd combo in the MF3; I wonder how many of the 1st-6th gear sets are interchangeable.

I'm off to our favorite overseas research facility.

Edit: Before i go over there, here is my ideal theoretical combo if I could swap whatever I wanted between the various flavors of M32 trans.

Start with an MZ0.

Get 2nd gear from an MR5.

Get 6th from an MZ4.

If 1st wasn't cool. I'd then think about either the MF3 (3.83) or MZ4 (3.65) ring and pinions to modify the overall spread and lengthen 1st.
