Wet passenger floor after rain?

It is right behind the glovebox door. Just rotate the door down, disconnect the strut that closes it slowly. It will swing out of the way and you can remove it. Then just open the door to the cabin filter. If it is wet, it is coming in the HVAC fresh air inlet.

It was a piece of cake to get the glovebox out....I didn't even need to disconnect the strut....
As I attempted to open the filter cage, water ran down my hand when i put a littler pressure on it (squeezing the filter) suggesting that it is soaked. I did not bother to take it out at the point.

Once again this site comes to the rescue and points me in the right direction of the problem ...along with the solution (Bullentin PI0826).

You guys are great!!

I can now go to my dealership with detailed knowledge of problem and solution and hopefully get it corrected.

Looks like you can count me in also. I had water once before but assumed it came from someones feet.

After the downpour today I have more water on the mat though not much.



Even if they can't fix the leak (which I bet they can) its still the best car I've ever owned.

Well....I went to the dealer today and handed him a printout of post 23 and post 44 in this thread indicating the bulletin number PI0826....and pointed him in the direction to check the soaked filter behind the glovebox. He acknowledged the bulletin and indicated he fixed the problem. My paperwork reads....."Verified Leak on passenger floor and followed TSB PI0826. Installed Butyl Material to base of windshield....repaired water leak".

Next time there is a heavy rain I will park the car outside the garage to verify all is well.....

Glad I found this thread. Count me in as well. I found water on my floor last week and brought it in immediately so I wouldn't get any of that "cannot reproduce" business. They were great and found the service bulletin and "fixed" it right away. The guy said he just added more sealant or something like the bulletin said. Though, he also kind of laughed about it, saying he didn't understand how it would be a permanent fix, and he thought it was a poor suggestion from Chevy.. hm. Guess he was right, or from what you all are saying, he didn't do everything the bulletin suggested. Also, now that I'm thinking about it, I never got any paperwork from them about what they supposedly did.

Either way, I'll be back in tomorrow to show them pictures of the puddle I found today, if it's not still raining.

Ugh, found water on my floormat the other day after work, and I happened to be parked where the right side of the vehicle was slightly higher than the left.

So far my solution has been not to park like that, and when I get some time take it in with the bulletin printed out. Its been raining a lot around here lately and it seems as long as the right side is not higher or on even ground, there is no water. I even park on a slight incline with the hood higher and there was no water.

It is frustrating they haven't seemed to do anything to fix the problem... I hope you find a good dealer who can fix the problem the first time around. I live in the city and have an off street parking spot. I guess it is the perfect incline that allows the car to leak.

I took it in again today and showed them the leak was still happening. They are going to do a little research and order some "parts" to hopefully build some kind of creative solution.. I'm not sure exactly. I guess we'll see.

I've also noticed if I park with the passenger side higher it happens. Only happened twice so far.

I still haven't gone to the dealer. I'm not so sure I want them messing with it unless I know it will be done right.

It doesnt sound like their is a good, repeatable fix to this issue.

I have a 2012 Chevy Sonic Sedan.. I have no sunroof. Bought it brand new, no accidents. I noticed this problem once before but didnt think much of it because it was so minor. Today tropical storm Andrea rolled through & when I went out to my car the passenger side floor was SOAKED. I pulled out the floor mat and water ran off it like a running hose. This would explain the horrible smell the car has & whenever I run the AC I assume.

I called my chevrolet dealer & they told me that I would most likely have to pay out of pocket to have the issue repaired. I don't for the life of me understand how that is at all fair. It is the CARS issue, not something I have caused. So I wanted to know if those of you who have had the issue worked on have had it covered by warranty or something along those lines, or if it had to come out of your pocket.

You don't have to pay. Reference the bulletin number in the post below and tell them you require the repair associated with the bulletin

I do think this is some bull****, but I was one watching Top Gear and they were test a new Range Rover when the front dome lights (map lights) started to fill up with water. So I guess even expensive vehicles can have stupid problems.
My car has been in some huge rain storms that lasted for days but I haven't noticed any leakage. But I haven't been looking for it either. I'm definitely going to start keeping an eye on it.

It's at the dealer now a third time after driving through heavy rain Friday and then today before I took it in. I saw water dripping from the holes that are underneath the glove compartment. The glove compartment is not wet inside, but underneath it is, as well as the entire carpet on the passenger side. The dealer said they're going to try to find where it's leaking and dry out the carpet with a heater or something. I just hope they find it and don't just dry it out and tell me it's fixed. I'm assuming they research the problem, but I'm going to check your suggestions when I get my car back just to make sure.

The dealer is full of it.

Even if there wasnt a service bulletin, which there is, there is no way you should have to pay out of pocket for this.

It's probably coming from the HVAC inlet. Check if the filter is wet using these instructions to check the cabin filter.
