The M32 Martyr
The chain guides show no sign of wear. The tensioner is oil pressurized. The top chain guide, between the cam gears has an oil port that oils the chain as it travels.
The valve build up is on the intake valves. It's not cooked on, it wipes off by hand easily. I'd say a catch can isn't a bad idea. It's odd, when I removed my charge tube it was bone dry, no sign of oil. But I still have a catch can on my to do list.
On more interesting discovery. The turbo bearing is oil and water cooled. The oil supply to the bearing literally is the first passage from the oil filter assembly. In other words it was engineered to supply the cleanest oil in the entire engine to the turbo bearing. This should help suggest how critical regular oil changes should be done on a hard driven 1.4T. I do mine every 3k, even though the recommended changes are much longer than that.
