It's possible, but involved. There is a coolant passage through the stock oil filter assembly block. Blocking off the stock filter won't be straight forward, and also the oil feed for the turbo is fed from that same assembly.
I'm not against the conversion, but I'm not even going to think about it until I get a turbo install completed.

A supercharger does not behave the same a s turbo when it comes to positive pressure. The S/C has no reference signal or wastegate to limit the pressure it can supply, it purely works off of how much air it can move per revolution it makes and speed is directly proportional to crankshaft speed. A turbo on the otherhand works off a pressure differentials and needs a reference signal for the wastegate. If you allow the engine to flow better the turbo will simply supply more air to stay at the commanded pressure before the wastegate starts to open.

Got the crank and pistons out. That escalated quickly. The entire engine is almost completely disassembled. All thats left is to remove all the valves from the head. I tried to make this last, but 1-2hrs a day for a week and teardown is pretty much done.:blankface:
I estimate that the entire process could be done in 4hrs at medium pace.
I updated post #3 with the moneyshots. I realize page 1 is bogged down from all the pics, but deal with it.

That picture at that angle makes the pistons look like those keychain pistons, lol. 7000 RPM should be no sweat with the reciprocating mass, or lack thereof of this engine!

8,000 should be possible! If Vince can tune out the advance drop (not rev limiter, that's easy) that happens passed 7k.
The bigger concern will be if the M32 will allow shifting at those revs. My last track visit I was shifting late 6,200 (because of the lagging stock tach) and I couldn't get it to go into 4th 80% of my runs.:blankface:
When I get to that valence of revs, I'll have to add a 4th step to this project...... That is either get serious about a trans swap (from another platform) or dogging the gears on the M32.
300hp at 7k don't mean a thing if I can't shift into the next gear.

with an automatic lol.I like how we're getting so many suggestions and people involved in this thread as opposed to "why would you build that instead of buying an EVO 1 million". I think we're going places, and be we i mean PRE!

That was an entertaining read.. The doubt is so strong over there.
I lol'd when the conversation bypassed 300 and went directly to 400hp. Clearly I've set my sights too low.
And if the CT guys happen to see this...... I as most power modding Sonic owner here am dedicated to the M32 manual transmission. It's been proven to stand up to 400hp+ 2.0T Vaux engines.
And I'd like to add that the 1.4 is a GREAT platform for building up. Obviously the displacement crushes some dreams, but 300-400hp should be attainable while still retaining 35-40mpg in the low revs. Try that with a 2.0.......

Talk to the cobalt guys with the 2.0 they are making 600+ and getting 40+mpg

Even when I say 300-400hp and 35-40mpg, what I mean is the 300+ will come running e85. Then to achieve 35-40mpg I'll have to fill up with 91. The great thing is with flexfuel I won't even have to pop my hood or plug in my laptop to Boyce between 300+ and 35-40mpg.
I imagine the "600hp" cobalt needs some wrenching to return to 40+mpg, but I digress. That's not what this thread was intended for.

the millisecond the gt25/28 is dialed in and bnr starts selling the stage 2 kit with tune update, i'll go broke faster than stratton can finish the quarter.

I'm aware the stock internals are forged, but that doesn't mean they are rated for the torque abuse I plan to put them through when I reach my target, which will likely require 30+psi boost.
But once I get stiffer springs, I got no issues with ramping up to 25psi on the stock bottom end.
A fellow member did the WG mod and the answer is certainly "no" to whether or not the internals stand up to 30. If i recall correctly, he not only blew the turbo from overrunning it, he also lost a cylinder, but i'm guessing he never opened it up to see if it was just the crown or a hole blown straight through.
I think Del and his team also ran a lot of boost and blew the crown on a Cruze engine.
