I will be trading my Sonic in tomorrow for a new car (Audi Q5).
Here are my thoughts on the car. First, I'm getting the new car because I leave on a fairly long trip shortly and have a fair amount of gear I'm taking with me. More stuff than I can fit in the Sonic.
For what it is, the Sonic is a great car. I had one issue with the radio that was fixed quickly when I brought it in to the dealer.
Is the Sonic a perfect car? No. It is, however, very fuel effecient and the Turbo was pretty peppy and handled most acceleration needs. Passing on country roads could be challenging because of the lack of pick up, but it wasn't a huge problem.
I liked the interior, and the car held up pretty well over the 20,000 miles I put on it.
Overall, I highly recommend this car for what it is...and entry level or economic ride around town. On the highway, it does get tossed around a bit more from wind/turbulence and road imperfections...the steering is good though, and it was fun to drive.
I would say my biggest complaint about the car is actually something that is unique to the Turbo. I end up turning off the traction control every time I use the car to prevent it. I wish there was a way to switch it off permanently.
Why? Living in the Pacific Northwest, the roads get wet sometimes. Here's an example of this...and it actually could have led to an accident. Making a right turn from a driveway into traffic. When you accelerate while turning sharply, the wheels might slip a little. If this happens the T/C kicks in and removes power from the engine. Unfortunately, this means you lose boost from the Turbo. And, if you're expecting to accelerate, that can be a problem when all of a sudden all power goes away for 1-2 seconds while the turbo spools up again. Not good if you're pulling out in front of someone that you would normally have lots of time to get up to speed in front of.
Other than that...had fun with it.
