Yeah, but that was a little inconclusive. I've grown up around transmissions and a failure like that seems to be a unique mixture of things IMO. Also a 50 shot comes on way peakier than 8psi spool up. For all we know, he got wheel hammer, which isn't really the trans' fault for tappin out on.

Besides, a F17 replacement would be super cheap used.

I'm sure some of my light-hearted attitude towards this discussion is partly produced by my own selfish desire to actually see someone boost the 1.8.

And hey, if you need any advice on trans replacement instructions...... I will gladly avail myself.

More reason to get a M32 if the F17 breaks. Imagine a 1.8T sonic shifting 6-gears. Game changer.

Also, if the right turbo is selected, and can spool up to 8psi at 2k, I would definitely go with the stock 1.4 Sonic M32 (MZ4)

The MZ0 is annoying as hell..... Shifting more often and the hit in MPG from lack of big overdrive is killing me. But it'll all make sense when I get the big GT25r on, as I'll need to get up and stay up above 4k to use my power.

A look at a stock 1.8 dyno will help make the decision. But the stock 1.8 cruze M32 (MZ0) will likely be better for road course, at the sacrifice of MPG.

Remember, n/a power is made as RPMs go up, so you'll want to keep them up.

What is the rpm/mph graph of 1st on the 1.4 6 speed? Maybe I can get away with running out 1st vs going to 2nd in the mz0

My thoughts on the 5 speed.

I do not feel it is the optimal trans for this car in stock form. The gearing is not horrible until you get to that unselectable space right behind where the 5 is. This engine would really benefit from having a 6 speed. I suspect that with the proper 6 speed (Sonic 1.4 trans might do the trick for me actually) I could hit my goal of 50 MPG without much work. The F23 Getrag from my Cavalier was only rated for 179 ft-lbs of input torque. the GMPP M45 S/C kit exceeded that limit. My built engine and 2.4" S/C pulley deffiantely exceeded that limit, and the turbo put me way over that limit. I ruined synchros about every 10k miles, but that was due to the sheer abuse I put them through when beating on the car.

I do intend a 6 speed swap in my car. I do intend a proper turbo build. That being said, both items are not going to happen right away. There will be a lot of research done prior to both changes and I am sure that there will also be a decent cost with the engine build and turbo install.

can someone help me pick out an intercooler??? isnt there an upgraded intercooler somewhere for the 1.4??? Also, the DW 590cc injectors are listed for the Dodge Neon SRT4...does that matter???

Intercooler: your best bet is to find a stock Sonic 1.4 Intercooler. Obviously the dimensions make fitment a slam dunk and so far it hasn't seemed to be incapable of handling the flow or pressure requirements for 200+hp. CXRacing offers a kit, but so far it sounds to me that the IC portion isn't anything special, nor is it anything bad, so that is also an option if the OEM IC proves to be priced something ridiculous.

Injectors: why are you concerned about what type of injectors the SRT has? Unless you are planning on changing intake manifolds as well, I'd go with the same Bosch green 42# injectors that have become common upgrade hardware for us.

Lastly, it really sounds like you're getting serious about being the first Sonic 1.8T. Although there is already multiple 1.8 turbo threads, can you maybe make a new one that specifically follows your quest. I think a nice clean slate may be in order.

Why Hello Everyone. Never been on here but i have been reading on this site for months now... i know how lame of me to have no input lol. but in any event. is there any one that actually has any idea on the block styles and trans styles in other ecotec platforms. i dont really care about the motor mounts or style of mount. but literally the engine block...For example the 1.4l turbo is a family 0 while the 1.8 is a family 1. they also have family 2 as im sure u guys know.. which is your higher displacement engines.. so the point is what is the difference in these blocks..anyone know? if we knew that the engine family defined cylinders but the same head style. then we can use the intakes off other engines. chevy has always had a pretty extensive list of swappable parts and im sure the ecotec platform is no different. the info isnt readily available however. anyone car to chime in?
this is the turbo thread yes but this does apply to getting a badass turbo 1.8 on the road if we knew how to get a top end that swaps ready to accept some turbo setup

As far as I'm aware the different engine families share nothing. All the bolt patterns and hardware are different.

well thats kinda lame that the engines are different. as far as we know at the moment at least. im grabbin a garrett gt25 tommarow and i might just whip up a turbo 1.8 cuz id like to see it done.

the hydramatic transmissions
the 6t30 6t40 and 6t45
which as far as i know the 30s go in sonics for their light weight and low power handling in the recent sonic and cruze models
the 40 is an older and tougher version and the 45 being the toughest of that hydramatic family of trans. anyone know if these would swap. lol

alright so i looked at how the 1.4l guys are set up and one major problem i saw is that their intake manifold is on the opposite side of the engine block. could we just use one of theirs or is this another thing that needs to be r&d? because from memory i pretty sure it would be near impossible to flip our intakes around.

the manifold is on the same side, but the TB moved from the front to the back (belt is front and bell housing is back). This really is not an issue if you are making charge pipes anyways.
