Trade in value

I considered trading my wife's Sonics for a Honda Fit today and was actually insulted. They offered $9500 trade in for my black LT with 9500mi. KBB valued it 10.5K - 11K. Worst of all, they wouldn't budge on sticker price. They also dropped a bomb shell on me about half way into the whole ordeal... "I'm sooo sorry, I forgot to mention that this car had some hail damage during delivery. The repair was about $600." I asked if they were discounting the car any because of that and they said no. I promptly left and sped away in my Sonic.

The Fit was a nice car, maybe even nicer than the Sonic, but they certainly aren't worth MSRP.

Has anyone tried to trade in their Sonic?

I was going to buy a new sti about two weeks ago and the dealer offered me 12,500 for my 14 RS with 7500 miles at the time and they wouldn't honor there military discount and use my warranty deductibles because I was getting an sti so I quickly left in my sonic also aha

Just checked a 2014 LTZ with the same amount of miles. KBB says $13115. I'm sure an RS would be worth another $500.

I got $9800 for my 2012 LT with 39,000 miles and a busted transmission that leaked everywhere and paint chips/scratches all down the driver side door and a lot of warranty work done

KBB trade in or retail? Most dealers also use the NADA black book. Trade in is lower and resale is higher.

They take busted up cars in for trade-in, because they know you'll think you are winning.

If you sit down and crunch the numbers..... they are winning.

Let's say you still owe 10k on your Sonic. They offer you 11k "trade-in" and you drive away in a 20k car...... So they took 11k off the 20k? So what? That leaves 9k you owe on the new car and 10k you owe on the traded-in Sonic.


You walked in with 10k in debt and left with 20k of debt. Awesome!

yeah 10k is what i got offered a few months ago when i wanted to see what they would give me i think im gonna keep my car till it dies. my fiancee is going to UT to be a dr so hopefully by they time shes out ill be able to get a better car.

Decided to go ahead and trade the wife's black Sonic. We've had a few issues with the car, so it feels kind of nice to have it gone. I'm still keeping my white 5spd though.

She decided on a Mazda 3. They were giving some pretty good deals on the 2014 models, but they still don't come off MSRP like Chevy does. As a side note, I must say that this car feels much better built than the Sonic and drives much better on the highway. She drove it to work today (80mi round trip) and got 42MPG. That beats the 33MPG of the 1.8L Sonic.

It's a shame my 1.4 can pull off 48-50MPG if I only do strictly highway.

Thought about trading her car for an LTZ or RS, but that seemed a little idiotic to trade for the same vehicle.

Although the Sonic rides fairly well, it cannot compare to a larger vehicle on the highway. The Sonic has a lot of road noise (which is understandable). We thought about a Cruze, but I honestly haven't been too impressed with the overall build quality of GM.

Cruze is about the same as the Sonic as far as road noise. My second car was a 1987 GrandPrix (G-body) and honestly every newer car I've been in seemed horribly loud in regards to road noise and vibration compared to that.

At the same time, you loose the feel of the road in a car like that compared to the Sonic so I guess it depends on what you want.

Maybe my expectations are low, but The sonic seems really muted inside compared to many other cars I have been in. I prefer to hear whats going on to an extent, and I dont really get that in my car.
