Yeah, that and you'd sell like 5 of them.
GM's sports car is the vette, it has been for over 50 years and that's not going to change. When Buick made a car that beat the vette only in a straight line GM put a stop to it.
The Sonic is a tiny economical car, not a performance sports car and it never will be.
There are at least 5 people in my family alone who would buy one.
I'm thinking more like a newer version of the Solstice/Sky. How many of those did they sell? Something like 100,000.
Not everyone can afford a $55k-$110k Corvette. Offer it under $30k and there will be very few people who cross-shop the two.
The question was what I'd like to see. I don't give a **** if it'll ever happen.
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know this thread was for things we want but know are impossible.
I'd like to see the Sonic morphed into a 5 door 2000lb hatch with a 750HP 3 liter turbo inline 8 with a 6 speed manual and AWD. I want heated and air conditioned seats, heated steering wheel and I want it all for under $15K and I want it to get 50MPG city.
On a serious note, I'll take a straight 8 over a V8 any day of the week. They sound better and perform better.

All things being equal, I do not see how a straight 8 would be better than a v8. For size and power, I do not know why they did not continue to work on the v4 technology.

I'm not going to explain the pros and cons of V type and inline engines so you're going to have to do a little reading yourself at : Straight-eight engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And for sound of an inline 8, yes, it's very similar to a V8 but, at least to me, sounds smoother.
I'll just leave this here. : http://youtu.be/cdoFmTDv_MI?t=3m27s
So, what we can all agree on is that we want a 1.6T Wagon with AWD, diesel option, and basically the same tech and the windshield glare fixed.
Thanks, now I know why I don't want one.
"Also, due to the length of the engine, torsional vibration in both crankshaft and camshaft can adversely affect reliability and performance at high speeds. In particular, a phenomenon referred to as "crankshaft whip," caused by the effects of centrifugal force on the crank throws at high engine rpm, could cause physical contact between the connecting rods and crankcase walls, leading to the engine's destruction. As a result, the design has been displaced almost completely by the shorter V8 engine configuration."
**** you auto correct!
You may want to do a little more research on it, also what is "high rpm"?
I've never seen a straight 8 even from the 1930s have issues with 6K rpm. Oddly enough as far as I know V8s replaced inline 8s because of length more than anything.
1933 Maserati supercharged straight 8 on Dyno, no issues @ 5500rpm.

Now, look up at all the problems straight 4s and V6s have. If you really wanna have fun look up all of the issues with a 90 deg v6.
I got it straight from the page you posted

I would like to see Chevy take the Sonic abd clearly define the RS as a mild sport upgrade, the SS as hopped up version with more power and suspension and a "Z" version that's just bat**** cray and highly trackable... it would unify the brand and match up to the Camaro and Vette personas
