2014 Chevrolet Sonic Turbo. Original owner, purchased it new in August of 2014.

It's a 1.4 Turbo LT. 6 speed manual. 5,000 miles and counting. Has all LT features, MyLink with backup camera. Has never been tuned, etc. Did have a DDMWorks Intake, but stock box is back in the car.

I'm asking $12,300. I am located in Eastern Washington State. I still owe on the car, so we'd have to work some sort of deal out at my bank and I would provide a bill of sale in the meantime.

If I am being honest, I don't like the car enough to justify paying nearly $700 a month between overpaying for the car payments and paying for full coverage insurance.

I owned a 1991 Ford Festiva and 1991 Geo Prizm that I had more passion for than this car. I think I am addicted to throwing away money and driving crappy cars.

I was not-so-smart in purchasing a brand new car, because when I originally purchased it I was thinking "Oh yeah, I will keep the car for a couple years, pay it off and go from there" but I really can't see myself driving it for that long. I'd rather get out of the payments and move on.

So I took the bullet by taking the near $7K in depreciation already lol.

It's a loaded 1.4L 6-speed with very low miles. That $13000 price is Nice Price all day.

Selling a car with a loan is no problem as long as you're doing it locally. Buyer and seller go to the seller's bank. Buyer writes a check to the seller's bank. If the seller is upside down, then he must also write a check to the bank at the same time. The bank will then release the title. The seller may want to talk to the bank in advance and see what they need to do to get the title in hand at the time of transaction to save trips. If the buyer is financing the car, then the banks pretty much take care of this for you. (for a fee I'm sure)

Forget about the passion of driving one of the beaters! I spent 8K on a seemingly perfect Olds Aurora with 28K on it to find it was going through a qt of oil every 700 miles! Suck it up and learn to enjoy the Sonic. You'll regret otherwise.opcorn:

I had an Alero as my first car and it absolutely ate oil. It needed about the same amount. It had the 2.4L Quad4 engine. There wasn't much passion put into those final years of Oldsmobile cars. If you look it up, it wasn't uncommon at all.

That's what I paid for my 2014 LTZ with the exact same mileage from a local dealer 1 month ago. Private party will get you much, much less. A dealer trade? ...Well, you might as well give it a way.

I could trade it in and still break even, but I would rather sell it PP if possible. The prices I see at my local dealer are like 15K for 2013 Sonics with 30K+ miles and those all have 1.8's.

I would have to call your current hand and even raise you $1000. I just did a local (Spokane) search for trade in at a Chevy dealer on your exact vehicle. This is what the site returned:

2014 Chevrolet Sonic
$8,290 - $10,910
Price accurate until February 21, 2015

KBB says this for a very low mileage excellent condition LT model:
$10,200 - $10,900 - Dealer trade in
$12,600 - private party sale

With that said, a local Autonation chevy dealer still has new 2014 Sonic LT's well equipped (with mylink) on their lot discounted for $13,900. It's a hard pill to swollow but the buying market has the same tools at their disposal as the selling market. If I can buy new for a very nominal amount, I would.

Best bet now is just take it in to a dealer and ask for a trade in appraisal. Be prepared though.

Yeah, I could probably trade it in and break even. I just made one of those stupid 20 year old mistakes. You know, how you think you know more than everybody else. A lot of people told me not to buy new, and I heard it for years growing up, but I did it anyways lol.

Thankfully I am at a point in my life where I am not stuck and SOL.

From what you've posted - you can afford to keep this car. Why pay another $5 - 10 grand to drive a POS instead of a new car under warranty?

It's a tough decision for me. The benefits of keeping the car would essentially be that I would have a reliable car under warranty for the time that I keep it and would eventually pay it down to the point where the car is worth more than what I owe on it.

But at the same time, if I got rid of it and broke even, I could save that $500 a month. But I do also understand that I would then need to save up several thousand dollars, buy a car without a warranty and if it explodes, it's all on me.

To give you some perspective, I don't pay rent. I am a 20 year old who lives with his grandparents. So that's essentially the reason why I can afford to take $700 a month out of my monthly earnings and throw it towards the Sonic.

With very little housing expense, you can get the Sonic paid off quite rapidly. Once the car is paid for, you don't need to have full coverage on it anymore.

Then you can drive a fairly new, low mileage used car and only pay for liability insurance if you choose to.

BTW - what are your comp and collision deductibles? You might be able to save significant money on your insurance by going with a $500 or $1,000 deductible - which would allow you to pay off your Sonic faster.

FWIW - back in 1998 I bought my wife a new 1998 GP with a 3 year loan. When we paid it off, we kept making that same payment to ourselves. In 2007 we still were driving the GP (6 years with no payment), but we decided to buy another new car and paid cash for it.

When we bought our Sonic last September, I was going to pay cash, but found 1.39% financing which was less interest than I was making on my money.

At 20 years old, you have a unique situation of making a decent income with very few expenses. Get your car paid off as quick as possible and then start saving for your next major purchase (a home?).

Plus, the sonic with a 1.4 can be a fun car. If your not enjoying driving or want to work on your car mod it. A tune will bring it to life, intake exhaust, intercooler, will give u even more with the tune...

You said break even, let's face it if u sell now your not gonna do that.

If your getting 170-200hp at the wheels and you don't enjoy the sonic, something's wrong with you
