believe me, I am thankful that changing it will be fairly simple when the time comes! if its only about $120 for the part, I would rather buy it myself than deal with the dealership and have them see the mods on the car.

From the parts diagram, it looks like its inside of a case under the passenger side dashboard. Should be fairly simple to replace, vs on a car that the whole dash needs to be removed.
If you buy the whole lower case, its cheaper than just buying the motor! Look for lower case under the HVAC section. Its $113 for the whole case vs $137 for just the motor.

I had mine replaced under warranty last year. Everything was great for a year, and now it's back, so even the replacements (if they really DID replace it, that is) will fail..
We have a 2013 Sonic bought new. 1st Winter the blower made noise that could be heard easily on 1 & 2. It was there on 3 & 4, but the motor pretty much drowned it out. Noise went away during the Summer. Came back again the 2nd Winter. Had it replaced under warranty at that time.
The intermittent high pitched squeal was cured in my 2012 after my daughter convinced a service tech that it was probably a bearing failure. The service manager kept coming back to "debris, nuts, mice, squirrels" all which are banned from our garage. The new motor came with a kit because they had to "cut out" the original blower to replace the motor. 54,000 miles, $100 on GM protection plan.

Seriously? I haven't got under the dash to look, but you can't simply remove the blower motor by removing a few screws and unplugging the electrical connector?
Mine quietly squeaks every so often, when it annoys me enough I was going to see about removing the motor and putting a few drops of oil on what will surely be some type of oilite bushings.

According to the author, the issue comes from the spacing between the motor and the housing, and he proposes simply adding shims. Unfortunately there hasn't been a lot of feedback on the forum as to whether or not this works, and the user quoted above says that you need to cut the blower motor out for Sonics?
I would love to apply this fix but I'm not mechanically savvy enough to conquer any problems not presented in this guide as a result of using a Cruze guide on the Sonic. If someone else could confirm that this works on the Sonic or even write another (or amended) guide I'm sure lots of people would find it extremely helpful.
So many people have this issue, and Chevy should really take action. Of course this sort of thing isn't covered under the power-train warranty, but people have said it's started on cars with under 10k miles. Despicable engineering.

Seriously. On my 13 the blower and housing it mounts to are one piece. I took a air powered bi-metal saw, separated the blower motor from the air-flow housing (cut it out) and installed the new one. Took my time cutting it out and it fell right out, new motor mounted right in the pre-existing mounting holes. Problem solved.

I know you have to cut it out, but you're saying the new one you got used the mounting holes that the bottom cover screws to? If that's the case it's very easy. Mind taking a picture of it for all of us?

I'm currently sitting at the dealership waiting for them to fix this very issue. Noticed a squeak about 3 months ago and let it go until it got so bad that I couldn't take it anymore. My extended warranty is covering the new motor but not the "adapter kit" that is required because the old one has to get cut out. I'll update with my total cost and hopefully improved cabin noise once I'm out of here and headed home.
UPDATE: the repair would've been $400.53 had it not been for my warranty. $110 or so of that is labor. Took about an hour total in and out the door. Absolutely zero noise now. A huuuuuge relief because with winter beckoning I would've gone crazy listening to that noise any longer while blasting the heat. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't give a huge shout out to Nicole at Tom Hesser Chevrolet in Scranton. My very first experience there was a nightmare and ever since I started dealing with her it has been nothing but pleasant experiences.
