Does this still need to be accomplished if you're BNR tuned or does the tune accomplish the same thing?
Bypassing the the bypass valve solenoid.

I'd like to know that as well but it's so easy to do that I'd probably do it anyway while you wait for a response, ha.

I never wrote back. I did the bypass. There is no change in power delivery or anything. But at least i could get the boost gauge installed without the system giving any errors so thats still a thumbs up for this mod in my eyes.

Weird that you didn't notice any difference as it was very noticeable with mine.
Definitely worth doing it. I have not noticed any increase in oil consumption after doing this mod.

I am wondering...I installed a new turbo OEM on my 2012 lt sedan due to
p0299 codes. Now I have the new turbo installed and a UG. Still getting pending p0299 code and UG is not showing any boost above 6 psi other than momentarily and immediately dropping off to below 6 psi. Will this mod help eliminate the pending p0299 codes and give me normal boost numbers? As a side note I broke what I think is the solenoid you are talking about in this mod when I installed the new turbo. I am talking about the solenoid attached to the turbo assembly. I broke a plastic nipple off. I replaced it with the solenoid that was on the original turbo. It may be faulty on its own. I don't know. All I know is I did not want to buy another turbo just to get the solenoid. FYI the turbo is for sure bad. Lots of oil in intercooler and the old turbo is hard to turn by hand. More resistance than what exhaust air could overcome I do believe!! The original turbo had 265,000 miles on it. The blades looked good and I did not notice any play in the shaft. I have not returned it for the core charge yet. Maybe I will try to take some pics of it before I return it. I know I already have the parts for the mod so just try it, right?

The bypass valve solenoid is actually on the intake manifold, are you referring to the actual bypass valve. (Black nipple with a vacuum line attached that runs to the back of the engine.)
Wow am I embarrassed. I am way out of the ball park. I looked at the hose going back to the IM but did not realize there was a solenoid back there also.
Now it is starting to make sense. It does look like it is hard to get to with the alternator in the way if you go in from underneath and just not much room from above. I hate daylight savings time. When I get home from work there is not much time before it gets dark. I will probably try this over the weekend if it is not too cold. Also do you think it will help eliminate the P0299 pending codes? I am trying to upload some pics but I am too old for this high tech stuff. I will try to get that accomplished when my better half gets home. Sorry.

If the solenoid under the intake is stuck open to the vacuum bottle. Then yes this mod will cure/bypass it.
However, there are few other possible causes to P0299.
-The first I would recommend to look for is making sure all intake pipes are secure and not cracked to make sure there are no boost leaks. Don't overtighten the hose clamps.
-The bypass/recirculation valve in the turbo might not be sealing fully or receiving enough boost pressure to keep it closed (via the vacuum hose to the intake referenced in this mod).
-Wastegate actuator might be receiving too much boost pressure, forcing the wastegate open. This could be caused by a failed bleed solenoid which you mentioned replacing earlier.
-Wastegate is stuck slightly open/not closing fully, allowing exhaust to bypass the turbine.
However, there are few other possible causes to P0299.

Just did this mod, plus hard pipe the air box and remove the snorkel. Wanted to do all 3 at the same time....Drove about 10 miles and so far so good. Definitely feels like there is something different and better going on. Turbo and intake noise is louder, and i haven't gotten the feeling where the boost disappears when the RPM's level out. Seems to spool up quicker and deliver power smoother, and generally feel a bit quicker. Feels a little stronger at full throttle...
Next time i drive i will hook up the Torque Pro. Before you could watch the boost disappear when you didn't expect or want it to. I will update after... So far these under $40 mods seem pretty good..

I was able to get the green/black hose off of the IM but when it came time to remove the vacuum hose off of the solenoid the space was too tight to maneuver. I didn't feel confident that if I was able to remove the hose that I would be able to cap it so I reverted back to stock and said "maybe another day."
I also thought about running a new 5/32 vacuum hose from the BPV to the IM but I couldn't reach the hose clamp on the BPV because it's facing down! Unfortunetly, there was even less room to maneuver around at the BPV so that option was out.. Unless I could remove the wastegate actuator I'd have more room but that AIN'T happening. Maybe one day if I have more time I can unbolt the IM and tilt it a bit to access the solenoid and try again.
Oh well, just have to get the BNR tune next!

So I browsed the entire thread and wondered what if you could have both systems in place? Using a check valve at point A or B or C, or combination of the 3. would it still work to limit the unwanted effect of the valve, while keeping a positive effect, if any?
Also those that have had trouble or issues with this mod. What is your altitude?
NOTE: GM list the vale as a "VALVE. Turbocharger/Supercharger Cooling"???

Some people try just pulling on the hoses, but a small 90 degree pick really helped me as it broke the seal enough to let me pull it off.
Finally got mine done today. Took my time and was able to get my big hands in near the solenoid to cap it. Car pulls a bit harder and so far is running great.
I need a new solenoid metal clamp, mine bent after I dropped it and stepped on it with my big feet.
So far so good!

Hi all,
Is anyone able to shed some light on their Sonic throwing a code after doing this mod? I keep getting P2261 (Turbo/Super Charger Bypass Valve - Mechanical) although the car is running fine. Have had nothing but goodness since doing this mod so wondering if I should just live with clearing that pesky CEL
