Idk someone told me it would lmao. Just checking. I wont be replacing until the recommend time at 144,000k unless I hear weird noises.

It is either 100k or 105k miles.
Be careful when replacing the timing belt. Not all timing belts are of the same quality. If you want to get at least 100k miles from your new timing belt, stick with OEM belt. It is a lot more expensive than an aftermarket belt, but will definitely last longer. The OEM belt retails for over $ 100 from a GM dealer. Do not forget to replace the tensioner and idler pulleys with the new belt. They are just as important because the sealed bearings in these pulleys operate at extremely high temperatures and eventually the grease dries out and the bearings seize, ruining the new belt.
You can buy a cam locking tool to keep the intake and exhaust cam sprockets stationary when removing and replacing the belt. I have an European version of this tool and it cost me around $ 20.
I will be replacing my belt around 90k miles and I will definitely use the OEM belt and replace the tensioner and idler pulleys as well. Most likely also the water pump.

My 2017 Owners Manual shows the timing belt for the 1.8L should be changed every 156,000 kms in normal or severe service.
On the last car I owned with a timing belt, 1994 Ford Escort GT, I changed the belt at 100,000 kms and it looked brand new.

Cost is $0 if you never do replacement or your engine. My moms sonic is 2012, 62000 miles. I'm thinking its probably time for me to change it for her.

From what I understand about getting the 1 cylinder to TDC is you just match up the marks on the crankshaft with the notch on the housing and align the camshaft sprocket notches with left being slightly higher than the right. Then insert the camshaft sprocket tool. That sound right?

I pulled this maintenance schedule off the GM website. The mileage interval is 97,500 which seems reasonable, but the 3 years seems unreasonable low.
You would have to drive 32,500 a year to make those match, when average driving is only 12 - 15,000 per year. That would put some average people changing it at 36,000.
I noticed some 2012 owners in this thread planning a change so assume they ran way past the three years. Anyone think the 3 years should be followed?

Is there a way to lube the tensioning Pulley?
Or is it the newest non-serviceable part with designed in obsolescence to make the whole job necessary at 100k.
