Allocation thy end is near. Praise Heaven!
It has been a bane for several decades, ever since a group of GM dealers in court successfully argued area sales managers were giving the cars with the most popular options and colors to favored dealers and others more difficult to sell to less favored. Allocation meant if you sold five Impalas the previous January you could order five the next January. It was supposed to even the playing field, and did so so effectively that pre-bkrptcy three Chevy dealers sold over half Corvettes every year (Kerbecks in NY/NJ, Stanford in Dearborn and Maxie Price in Atlanta). Its ineffectiveness became glaringly apparent when Chevy had to extend the 2010 Camaro run into September 2010 in order to accommodate orders made before March 15, 2009 and still not violate the rule of allocation.
I believe the transparency the internet provides has allowed this change. Now a small dealer with a retail sold order will be on equal footing with a mega dealer, and I for one think it is about time. (I know, the dealer is the buyer and GM is the seller, but there is a difference between a retail sold order and a stock sold order, and this new method allows for that difference.)

gah... first a 10 day stall at 3000, now a multiple day stall at 3100... Can't they just hurry up and tell me when my car will be built?

I feel your pain. I've been hoping for a 10-day move from 3400 to 3800 (meaning my car is actually built)... Today's day 10, so we shall see.

Unfortunately I was told by my dealer that GM suggests to them what cars they should order for the model launch, that they are most likely to sell. Thus the reason why there are/were no 1.4t or hatchbacks in SE Michigan on launch, other than maybe 1 per dealer which were sold immediately. When I ordered my 1.4 LT hatch, they only had a 1.8 auto sedan in stock, after selling 2 1.8 sedans and a hatch, and their standing orders were all 1.8 auto sedans, 10 of them.
I'll never understand how people attempt to predict sales like that.

Sonic, it could be less than ten days, my first order, the "orange debacle" went from 3400 to 3800 in 7 days (actually that's only 5 working days)

09/15/2011 (3800) Order produced and vehicle is being prepared for shipping.

Still in 3000. Hoping it goes into production soon. Getting tired of sharing one car between my wife and I. Plus the Prizm really isn't that fun to drive.

Not that I would've been surprised to wait longer than I was hoping, but 10 days (including non- work days) it was:

Just hit 3300! Now for me to be extremely impatient hoping it hits 3400 sooner than next Friday.

AxelRipper, check with your salesperson because when you get to 3300 there is usually a TPW and they dealership can get that info for you. Good news on the 3300 and here's hoping on the TPW.

Update: Just found out that her build-date is: November 14th & should be shipped about 2 weeks after that! Woo hoo!I pre-ordered mine through Cantin Chevrolet in Laconia, NH! My order was sent into the plant on Monday, October 3rd.... I'm going with the:
