Radio staying on...!!!

That's just bizarre to me. I swore when I bought the car that once the door opened and the key was removed, the radio went off and stayed off.

I did:

Once the key is turned from ON/RUN to LOCK/OFF,
the radio will continue to work for 10 minutes, or until the driver door is
opened or the key is removed from the ignition.

* Key was NOT in the ignition.

* Car was stopped well-over 10 minutes.

* Driver door was open.

This is what it reads!

It is possible to turn the radio back on at any time after it has timed out using the Power knob. The radio will be functional for 10 min after the last input has been detected.

Please read your owners manual from cover to cover.... It really is pretty good reading and you will understand your car better.

As Dermo stated earlier, the radio should shut off when the door is opened but it can be turned back on as stated in the manual. Last June my car started doing wierd electrical things such as the radio staying on, the drivers window would intermittently stop working, the radio would lose all programming, the engine would cut out and twice I had no lights or power. My dealer ended up having to replace the Body Control Module and the Fuse & Relay box. It's been trouble free ever since.

This is a late follow up questions but my 2012 radio is having same problem. Combined with a worn out/sensitive on/volume know that often allows the radio to randomly turn back on in park often running the battery down. I have to remove the radio fuse to guard against unpleasant dead battery surprises.

If your're reading this - how much did it cost to have the repair work done?

My 2012 LS is doing it too

My radio turns off when I turn off the key, and I look at it and think, oh good its shut off, after a few seconds the radio turns back on and will stay on until the battery is dead so I have to unhook the negative whenever I get out of the car

Today my radio face went black but the radio stayed on and it was up about halfway. I tried to manually turn it off and on as this has worked before to get the screen back on, no luck. Figured when I turned the car off it would reset. Didnt work. The radio would not turn off, I couldnt turn it down, I had to pull the fuse. The dealer had no ideas so I have to bring it in next week. I have been having issues with this radio since the first 5000 miles on the car.

Ok, can't seem to find this on here. When I park the car and have had my radio on, it would normally shut off when I opened the door. Well I just got home and even after door was opened with key out , and even after arming it, it was still on. When I opened the door to manually shut it off, that's when it finally shut off. I don't want to forget and drain the battery....anyone else have this happen?

Happening with my '20 RS currently, dealership has spent 10-12 hours and don't have a clue. Want me bring it back again today. Wish I'd kept the '17 Sonic Hatch.

Please see pg. 9-19 under Driving and Operating, RAP The Retained Accessory
Power (RAP) Sonic vehicle accessories may be used for up to 10 minutes after the
engine is turned off:
. Audio System
. Power Windows
. Sunroof
The power windows and sunroof will continue to work for up to 10 minutes or until any door is opened. The radio will work when the key is in ON/RUN or ACC/ACCESSORY. Once the key is turned from ON/RUN to LOCK/OFF,
the radio will continue to work for 10 minutes, or until the driver door is
opened or the key is removed from the ignition.

That was the case from 5 of 2020 until last Saturday. Opening door does NOT power off radio. Dealership doesn't have a clue. Very frustrating.
They say a" bulletin" indicates the problem but update will not successfully load.

Was this fixed? Just noticed a few days ago mine is staying on after shutting off car and opening door. I also have a 2020 RS Sonic

The only workaround I have found is to get out of the car. Lock it. Unlock it. Open door and sit in seat. Get out. Shut door. The radio turns off and then I lock it. It's driving me crazy.

I feel your pain. I still don't know of a fix, but try my work around, seems less tedious than yours
Turn off car, opening door, then pressing the power button on the radio. That has been working for me.

Oh well you'll love this. About a week ago, it stopped leaving the radio on. It is now okay but as soon as I send this it will probably decide to torture me again.
