Very sexy but it fails in the same way ALL the full-electrics do - overpriced.
Every maker and their mother tells you the 'cost of the car' but usually tries to show you the cost WITH the possible gov't tax credit which is really huge.
The problem is that no one realizes it's a POSSIBLE credit and the gov't won't pay you out the difference if you balance out on your taxes.
(Even better, CA offers an extra $2500 tax credit making it an even bigger lie)
I think it was the Fit all electric that took your zipcode before showing a price then showed you "The price" but it had already fully deducted the Fed and CA tax credits and was STILL way overpriced.
Come on, $42k for a Volt?(I'd rather get a Vette @ the same price, or maybe an SS Camaro) It's really nice, and I appreciate the mileage, but if the gas savings does not outweight the cost of the vehicle's markup.
If the savings is dead-even with the markup, you're still paying it upfront, or worse yet, you're paying interest on it.
The problem is that instead of the tax credit helping buyers to make the 'ecologically responsible' decision by making it cheap, makers have price-gouged and artificially driven the price of eco vehicles up figuring that 'hey, the end-price for the buyer is what we wanted originally anyway, this just gives us more profit!'.
Before you write that off as conspiracy-based nonsense, consider the Prius plug-in.
The normal Prius costs Less by about the tax break, and they aren't spending tons more on it, hell, it has a completely **** range so it's not like the battery is 10x larger.
Before someone chants "gov't should keep their hands out of 'the free market', it runs itself!", remember that the manufacturers are part of that market and they're trying to screw you.

Yes but companies such as GM are heavily influenced by gov officials since the bailout. Electric cars are expensive because we are not efficient at creating electric cars yet. Its a waste of time right now, use gasoline and "if" someday we were to somehow run out of something that is produced naturally then the market will push companies to create alternate fuel sources such as electric cars efficiently
I drove one a week ago. I love the Sonic, but if a used Volt comes up at a price under about $27 or $25 ish, I might jump for a trade. I considered leasing one, but my sales guy talked me out of it, and said wait for used. But then, I may keep the Sonic. I can't decide!!!! hehe

Its a fancied up and expensive Cruze.
I did some math and assuming i charged it for free every day and had no fuel cost for it, after 144k miles of driving I would have saved enough fuel cost to break even compared to what I saved by buying a Sonic. Its a neat concept, but that is about it.

I still haven't drove one but electrics (and hybrids) just done do it for me yet... they're over priced, and haven't been around long enough to determine reliability, and for some reason they all seem to be aimed at a buyer who picks "loaded" cars..
Why wouldn't an "enviromentally friendly" car be marketed towards pragmatic ppl and be utilitarian in design and not ladden in every option one could want... makes no sense to me.
At anyrate it would be cool to see these cars get to a practical level but right now it appears that they are made for reducing "Smog" at the cost of producing "Smug"
if anyone has seen "who killed the electric car" you will understand my animosity towards the current hybrid and electic trend and why paying more for it seems illogical
Anyway sorry I just couldn't bite my tongue on the topic and do appreciate what these cars are trying to stand for

If you cared about the environment, you'd pollute less than an electric car with any car that gets 35+MPG.
A study (in Car & Driver) showed that the amount of pollution made at a power plant to propel an electric car 33 miles is equal to the amount of pollution created by burning a gallon of fossil fuel.
We Sonic owners are more kind to the environment than those overpriced electric failures.:banana:

Anyhow, about the Verano. Yes it is a very sweet high end Cruze. So, by my way of thinking, the Volt is a very nice coal powered Cruze.
If and when plug-ins become popular we can look forward to massive India type power failures. Maybe not if we go French on nuclear power.
We certainly can't build more coal or natural gas plants, right?

And I'd buy a Tesla - Or one better, I'd build a car from the ground up that was all-electric and hand made everything.
If I farted fairy dust and had happy thoughts I could just fly wherever I wanted.
In all seriousness, it's a nice car, it's just been marked up to absorb the subsidy as profit.
Now if it STARTED at $32k and you could benefit from the tax incentive it would be a completely different story.
