Has anyone driven the LTZ in the snow yet?

Ok, so I won't talk about going fast in 6" of snow, but perhaps I'll let the video do the talking. Unplowed 2 lane country road, 6-8" of snow, 60 mph....tell me, does this video make your skin crawl?

Sorry about the loud wind noise, I was holding my cell phone out the window while I was driving in order to capture the video.

It makes my skin crawl... with excitement lol!!

Living in KS, it's not me I am worried about (I lived up north for a long time), it's all those other folk who haven't got a clue lol.

Driving in snow is all about the tires if you ask me! The best driver in the world isn't going anywhere on slicks. I haven't driven the Sonic in winter yet, and I don't even know if we'll get snow here this year lol... but just looking at the tire I would say uh... not the best for the white stuff.

They did well by me yesterday in the rain though.

Chains are NOT illegal here in Washington, and many western states.

We typically get a few snowstorms a year, giving us anywhere from 1-9" of snow usually. We have had up to 2 feet of snow in some of the bigger storms. This is at sea level. Much more in the mountains where there's skiing.

Mainly I was concerned with how well the Hankook's were in the light snow. I am still trying to decide between cable & real chains for any heavier snow...as well as any time I want to go into the mountains.

Well if chains are legal in your State, than I would think studded tires would be a go. They are quite versatile. Give them a looking at.

I have never used chains on a car. I can't imagine they'll be all that good for a small car like ours, but I could be wrong.

Guess it'll be time to pull the trigger here soon eh lol. Let us know what you went with.

I'll probably "weather" this winter with stock , but I am looking for a good all-season for down here in KS. We get ice here. Sometimes snow, but not enough to justify snow tires.

I don't know. I don't claim to be an expert driver of any kind, but I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY (not the city where they get 100 inches a year, but about 20 minutes away where we got 200 inches of snow a year) and after driving through close to 20 of those winters, and far too many 3-feet-of-snow-in-one-day-shouldn't-be driving days, I still don't feel comfortable driving on snowy/icy roads without snow tires.

Now, I'll admit that someone who has never driven in those conditions is at a huge disadvantage...however, no ammount of skill or experience (or computer aided driving) can reverse the laws of physics....that even with snow tires 60mph isn't really safe on snow and ice covered roads....and much less so without sticky tires desiged for it.

I've never bothered with snow tires, "all season radials" have always been good enough to get by when I "had" to drive in snow, but for the most part, I stay off the roads till they clear up, whether by sunshine or by road crews, depending on whether I'm down south or up north. I don't have any plans to buy special snow tires for my Sonic for that same reason, to wit:

The problem with snow has little to do with my car, front, rear or all wheel drive, or even my own driving skills... its the other jerks who think -they- know how to drive in the snow.

For that reason, I'm gonna have to side with Texas (or Arizona) as being the worst snow conditions I've driven in; far more people who don't know how but get out on the road anyway. Even in PA (where I spend 3/4ths my year) most people are reasonably snow savvy, I imagine in MI and so forth the danger might be people who don't know how to drive in the summer.

No need for snow tires, I kept my 2002 8.1L 4WD Avalanche for when it snows this winter.

I don't go out on New Year's Eve, New Years or on Xmas or Xmas eve. Way too dangerous.

I'm usually stuck with a 60+ mi drive every year and2 of those were in some of the worst snow storms I'LL has seen in about a decade. I just go highway speeds and avoid any quick action (turn brakes, gas ) like its the plague and admire how many times ppl can get spun around at half my speed.

Ice and slush is a different sotry that stuff scares me

Agreed. That's barely considered "snowing" around here. But it still indicates that winter may be arriving a little early this year. We usually don't see any untill the end of october.

I heard we were forecasted to receive snow on Tuesday. This area usually never sees any snow before the 1st of December. When we do get snow it's usually about a half dozen times a year with total accumulation of 20 inches or less. Last year it only snowed 3 or 4 times with less than 6" accumulated.

I'm a bit concerned as to how well my ltz sedan will do since I think you're right about winter coming early. With as bad as summer was, I fear a worse winter coming on.
