How to disable onstar

It has nothing to do with Onstars Functions. Onstar does not "Track" anything. Onstar only reports GPS/data location when blue button is pressed It can also tell what Cell tower the vehicle is hitting. As for data it must be requested from the vehicle by Onstar. It does a just general Scan just like the Ultra gauge but it does not really update it in real time. It just takes 1 frame of the data requested and uploads it.

I suggest you read the actual onstar privacy act about what they really can do with your info. They can share seat belt, speed, direction, gps location ect with anyone they want. You specifically give them permission to share your info and use it for third party marketing. There are reports of onstar selling the cars location to police agencies to set up speed traps. Personally I don't want to be part of anything that can track me for no reason. Now I understand it's unlikely to happen but I like my privacy an want to make sure it doesn't happen.

I should indicate that I have another reason not related to any of the discussion in this thread to have animosity toward OnStar. But that personal reason does add to the fire sometimes reflected in my posts.

The worst part is that as with most any privacy agreement they 'have the right' to change the terms at *any time without notification.
(Which should absolutely be unconstitutional, there's no way you should be in a contract that can be changed by the whim of the person writing it at any time)

Several times OnStar has even farmed out all the data manipulation to outside companies - I'm really supposed to trust companies in other countries not beholden to our country's laws? No.

That's a completely outdated notion.
You're fooling yourself if you think 8 million people can't be tracked at once.
How much large do you think the tracking data is per car per minute?

Much, much more data than this is transmitted every day through cell phones.
text messages, 160 characters, are transmitted for free by cell carriers in a sideband during contacts to cell towers, basically, a 'ping' that gives the cell tower your phone's contact info.

Ask yourself how many points of data are needed and how large it is.
Let's make an example:

That's pretty much a text message and lemme tell you, it would take super-frequent checkins for it to be any serious amount of data.
1/minute, it would take months to even hit a couple hundred MB of data which is nothing.

Just remember, this kind of data collection happens all day every day at Google, and they and the US gov't have an, 'inter-mingled' relationship.
Don't think it's really feasible? Remember 'Google dashboard' - the thing that tracks single users all day, every day if you're logged in?
You can see everything you've done since the beginning for moments you stayed logged in.
(Google itself, Gmail, Google Docs, etc, etc.)

(Imagine if someone told you 20 years ago that someone would have entire world maps quickly accessible that had data from 10 different sources, cars capturing images of entire cities and people wearing camera backpacks doing the same at indoor facilities and you could access it all in seconds on your phone. Can and do. And I suspect not even removing the antenna is a 100% fix.

The answer is to only drive vehicles that never had OnStar, and only use cash but no $50 bills or over as they can be tracked.

And never be an officer of a labor organization because when the sport stadiums are converted to holding facilities for the politically dangerous, the union officers will suddenly find themselves bunched at the fifty yard line.

Unless,... you look above and remember that not only did Germany do that in a terrible way, the US also gathered up all Japanese-Americans, removed people from their homes, let other people move in, and sent the Japanese to ..stadium camps.

No one cares that terribly bad things can happen to them.
No one takes up defense against such possible atrocities until it already happened.

What happens when a terrible racist organization, or militia group decides to take drastic measures against a specific ethnic group and gets ahold of a portion of the OnStar database either from an inside source or an overseas contractor?
Google, the US military, Sony, etc, etc have all been hacked in really big ways in recent years.
China has even rerouted the entirety of internet traffic several times (for several seconds) as a test.

The question isn't if, it's when. You may not be an affected party, but god help you if you are.

They get everything we can get with an UltraGauge and much, much more.
Soon, if not already, they'll be selling speed/GPS data to police agencies to help them better target their speed trap areas.

If everyone decides to be completely dismissive they'll one day convince some lobbyists and state congress people to pass laws allowing them to ticket you for speeding without any help from an actual officer.

"Dear sir, you were recorded as starting your journey at 'X' time, then paying a toll in the same vehicle 'Y' minutes later, making your average speed 92mph. Your top speed during this time was 98mph - Please mail your fine to 'z', your license is suspended for 6 months. Thank you."

Before you take that^ as paranoia, there are already state toll roads that do that and have for years.
Just think of it as an extension of the program. Disagree? You can't, you let us to it to the toll road.

Last I checked Most Police bugets did not have the extra funds to purchase BS information on the general public. Most departments are trying to keep there officers on the streets not worring about how you are driving.

That's actually not true in the least.
Budget problems affect actual police duty, things like; domestic disputes, robberies, gang/drug activity, organized crime, etc.

If there's one thing every police dept looks to is revenue from bull****; parking fines, traffic violations.
There are whole police departments for towns that have almost *no population* that are known for vigorous highway traffic fines and always have new vehicles.
(In some areas local police can give traffic citations even on highways)
Hell, I knew of one that kept an officer D.O.T. certified just so they could pull truckers over and cite them for inspections.

Police departments I'm sure would get a nice tidy discount that would make it more than enticing.
Profit margins would be very high in citations where no police officer was paid to sit around and trap all day.
Plus, highway patrol often let people going over the speed limit pass by because they're waiting for 'the big fish'.
Imagine if instead of letting motorists pass by you could get dozens and not 1 or 2.

Remember, it's for uhhh, traffic safety, and uhh, 'the children', and highway maintenance(Which your taxes pay for).

CohPhasor there are 3 towns withing 10 miles of me that came to mind when you mentioned small town police forces with big time cars.. the smallest has a population of maybe 3,000ppl and they have approx 5 new chargers and around 3 crown vics and an SUV of course all with nice fancy graphics on the side.

and guess what they're dicks and are known to set speed traps on the interstate that is right by there town among other things some of which are of questionable integrity
