Spare Tire 101: Whats in the trunk?

One chevy dealer tried to charge me extra to get the inflator kit instead of the spare. He was very persistent about how much it saved weight and gas and wouldn't let it go, so I walked off the lot to find a new dealer.

In my opinion the fix a flat pretty much takes a tire that could have been fixed and ruins it. Feel bad for whoever has to clean the mess up. Plus you can't just drop it off, have it fixed, come back later and have it put on or do it yourself like you can when you use a spare.

Thats good to no they paid less i would rather have the spare my self but did the buyers know thats why they paid alittle less i am sure the dealer didnt say all by the way you dont have a spare tire.But the other car does have a spare for $40 more.I would guess most would get the car with the spare.Maybe i am wrong i have been wrong before and it wont be the last time. If you are in the woods and your wife cant hear you are you still wrong?

I checked out the link.Just wondering how many more mpg you get by losing 26lbs. i could spare to lose 26lbs. i dont know if i can do it on my own so i told wife she had to lose weight too.now shes not talking to me.She dont have any weight to spare.I have owned 5 new chevys(still own 2 beside the sonic) and 2 used chevys and not once has me or my wife had to lose weight to compensate for my spare dounut tire.I would really like to know the mpg gain for 26lbs loss.That would help me decide if its worth not having a spare.

I heard that in general 100lbs, in a reduction of weight, adds about 1MPG to any given vehicle. So, 26 pounds would be putting in about .25MPG increase. Over the course of your gas tank, you could save about 3 miles?

If I recall correctly, the 2012 Sonic sales brochure specifically stated that the LT Sedan would not get the compact spare tire/tools, which to means the LS and the LTZ sedans would get one. I have not seen a rational for this decision and usupect the LT sedan could have the tire/tools as there should be space for them. At least it seems there should be space.

Well I had a blow out yesterday. I heard the boom pulling in to work parking lot. Changed my tire (put my donut on) worked all night, drove home. With a stupid can of crap. I would have had to have the car towed somewhere (which insurance would pay for) then find someone willing to wake up at 2 AM to pick me up from work and take me home.

No Thank you. I will take my spare tire anyday.
