Front end bottoming out?

Howdy, everyone. I don't know if this is because I'm new to driving a car with such a low front end as the Sonic, but I feel like it's very easy for me to scrape the front end of my car. Usually this happens when I'm going over a dipped curb in my apartment complex, since for water drainage, there's quite a bit of a gutter there. Obviously the parking spots require you to cross the dip.

Should I be concerned about this? It's very difficult to avoid!

I thought the same thing driving around scraping when I first picked up the car. I thought there is no way I'm ever lowering this.....

But like stated above its a flexible air dam extension...its put there to help mileage. You are probably not hitting the actual bumper. Reach under the front valence and grab the black strip and give it a wiggle....its really flexible.

I've been doing both! It's brutal in my apartment complex. The curbs are all scraped up everywhere.

I have also noticed whats sounds like maybe something hitting bottom or maybe some thing in the front suspension. Not knowing for sure if it dose it again may take it in to the dealer. If it is the dam hitting then I just wonder whats going to happen this winter when we get several inches of snow??? May be we will have a Tiny snow plow.

Tiny snow plow - that's a good one. And yes, you will, but the Sonic is FWD so you will be able to drive through it unless you are on summer only tires. Just think what 'Vette or 'Maro drivers have to go through when driving winter.

im having this same problem except i am actually scraping the bumper as the paint is coming off the bumper itself

Yea, I rub the damn air dam sometimes too but rarely.

I would think the only way to rub the actual bumper is if you park too close to those concrete curbs in parking lots. I never get close enough to those to touch the bumper cause I know for a fact it will rub.

it has happened only one time and it was when my wife was learning to drive my car if she ever had an emergency situation and she needed to drive it. She pulled into a parking spot and got one of those parking spot stops.

If there is an emergency, she's taking a cab.

Taught mine to drive stick on my old car, all I know is she can drive it fine but I'll need a new clutch when she's done. All she does is ride it no matter what i tell her.

Mine scrapes all the time on any good incline or dip in the pavement. As others have stated, if you angle it right you can usually avoid it. also if as stated before you take it slow enough as i have done many times as i have to at work to avoid this nasty dipping drain cover, i usually avoid scraping that peice. So Far, no damage to the bumper. just that annoying scraping sound when it bottoms out. If you all say its a flexable peice and isnt causing any damage for it to do it then i wont even worry about it myself. I was kinda wondering myself if it ever did anything to the car. but i would say now no its not.
