Sounds like if I drive it like I stole it, then the life could be shorter. If I grandma it, no worries

Yes really. The quicker you can engage the clutch (rough) the better. It's the friction grabbing from smooth engages that wear it out. "Dumping" the clutch is the best way to make it last, not to mention a much funner way to drive......unless your wife is in the passenger seat.....or even worse, your lap.opcorn:

It works the same way with auto transmission. The quicker the shift the better it is on it, you do tend to find the plastic parts that should have been metal parts quicker that way (GM trucks 4L60E vs the upgraded 4L65E and the HD 4L85E).

Holding in the clutch doesn't affect the clutch surface because it not touching anything. Your are more affecting the springs.

You mean slipping it instead of using brakes? Worse thing you can do to a clutch.

If you mean holding it to the floor, that is kind of abusive to the pressure plate, but not a big deal. But the best behavior is to put it in neutral and use the brakes at stop lights.

Not only fine, but a balanced way to increase brake life/engine life.

Like derp said, it will just hold the pressure on the pressure plate. It's a spring loaded device and shouldn't hurt it at all. The clutch is separated from the flywheel so there is no friction there.

I really almost only use the clutch for 1/2 shift. Then feather the gas pedal to shift with the feel of the stick to slide into gears as the rpms decrease.

Preloader I think you need more explantion on your "ideal" long lasting clutch take off style

If I take what you say w/o insight then I might assume revving my engine up to 5K and dumping the clutch would be better than feathering it out with no gas..

And I'm also going to assume that by fast you don't mean to the point where no passengers will want to ride with you.
