Needing help/advice on my sonic I just bought

So you have a 1.4L Turbo? Your signature says 1.8L non turbo. OR maybe you replaced the first Sonic?

Clear Sonic code 89 on dash.

Go back and ask them to reset it like they should have. Ask them to show you how

    2015 SONIC CODE P0420

Take to an auto supply store that will do a free scan that includes pending codes and fuel trim levels. If it is running rich . . . then you know you may have an exhaust leak that is letting air into the system I see this all the time where someone has an older car with even a slightly noisy...

1.4 PCV Issue on Road Trip - Damage if we drive?

Go to Walgreens, buy some "band aids" with the perforated holes over the center white gauze bandage. Apply it over the rupture disc. It will allow some air flow, but restrict and filter any air leak. May have to replace the band aid a few times during the drive It's worth a try . . .

    2015 sonic 1.8

Ok. . . this thread has a lot of info as to what parts wear and usually need replacing. Note this thread covers both the Sonic with the 1.4L and 1.8L engines. The 1.8L engine has far less common repairs. The good news is. . . if you can DIY the common repairs amount to $300 to $400 of parts...

    2015 sonic 1.8

Also, there are a handful of "wear" parts that should be monitored. Give me a moment and I will find the llikn for that. Yes.. many have gone over 100K miles with the 1,8L engine.

    2015 sonic 1.8

I can tell you that our 2017 Sonic LT w/1.8L and automatic gets 27 to 28 MPG for wifes' drive to work in warmer months. It is a short 6 mile drive for her at 35 to 55 MPH. In winter, the MPG goes down to 26 or so. It would do better with a longer drive. When we take summer day trips in it to...

    Looking for a part name

This should be it. You can look up the part number for the best price on many vendor sites GM 95173682 and GM 95173683 for driver and passenger door...

    Anybody happy with their sonic?

Good to hear! Our daughter bought a 2014 with 1.8L also new in July of that year and drove it till late October 2021 when it got rear ended by a trash truck. Sad day. Her Sonic had some 140,000 miles on it with just a few repairs along the way. A purge valve, a thermostat housing leak ( under...

    P0171

I had something similar happening on daughters 2014 1.8L. I found a vacuum leak with a cracked connector from the brake vacuum accumulator to the intake manifold if I recall. But I do not remember the error code that was generated. In my case, the cracked connector leak would go intermittent ...

    Just bought another one

I agree.... when I bought our 2017 Sonic LT HB, I already knew how bad the OEM Hankooks were for even a 1/2" snow fall in winter. My dealer had two $100 rebates for new tires and I bought a set of Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus tires for just over $500. I sold the Hankooks on Craigslist for...

2016 Sonic- AC only works after battery is disconnected

Thanks for that reply ! If coolant was low, or air in the system, the thermostat may have had an air bubble hindering proper operation and temperature reading. A/C won't run if something is amiss with coolant temperature or readings. Since our Sonic's have no temperature gauge to even see...

    Not too Bad!!

Wife gets 26 to 28 MPG or so in her 6 miles drive to work daily with the 1.8L and we are happy with that. Wish she had a longer drive. It's bad in winter when engine barely gets to warm up much. For highway, we are usually get 29 to 32 MPG depending on whether we drive 65 or +70 MPH...

New 2017 LT RS Cajun Red HB - - -

Yep . . still lovin' ours. Running good even after a white tail deer tired to "slip under" it on the interstate. $3,400 repair and pushed in the lower fascia, radiator, A/C condenser and smashed the radiator fan plus some bit parts. Repair went well and our daily driver. This forum has gone...

High Mileage Sonics - the longevity thread

We are still in our 2017 Sonic LT. But daughter got rear ended in her 2014 Sonic late last Fall. I shopped with her and looked everywhere online within a reasonable 80 to 120 mile radius and just couldn't find a decent replacement for a reasonable price. We found either well worn 2012 -13 (for...

Transmission fluid change....is it too late?

Follow the Sonic and Chevy Cruze 6 speed auto fluid changes. Just make sure you measure what you drain out and fill with exact same amount. Drain and refill at least TWO time to get +92% new fluid in the system. About +2 quarts remain in the torque converter and radiator transmission oil cooler...
