That has nothing to do with the code reader itself. It's just reporting what code the ECU is flashing. Chasing the MAF when it turned out to be an improperly installed oil cap just happens to be a bad diagnosis of what that engine code signaled.

Just for reference - almost any auto parts store will also read codes for you. I love having my own but for folks who don't have them is why I'm sharing this comment.
