Cam locks are great for faster belt changes; lock the cams, swap the belt, done!
I've found most times when you take a belt or chain off, valvesprings pushing against partially ramped lobes will move the cam to an equilibrium point.
Which is never where you started out.
Any updates on the build?? I joined this forum after seeing this while lurking. Doesn't seem to be this kind of teardown going on over at the Cruze Forums. $800 is a smoking deal for a long block. Im interested in this myself. And since the OP lives about 100 miles from me, it would be interesting to see the finished product.
Interesting how End Tank USA has a turbo kit for this car, and no one has seen it on a car.

The rebuild is a ways off. Pistons are ready, rods should be soon. But work has gotten very consuming for me, so the efforts are slow going.
The EndTank kit seems overpriced. Also it has not been confirmed that it has ever successfully ran. It was speculated to be a "interest" bait project.
Also I don't think the location of the turbo would fit on a Sonic, nor do I think pointing it upwards is good for much more than showing it off.
DDMW is building my turbo kit. He has just recently accomplished the performance desires on a custom intercooler. It just needs some fitment adjustments, and then the rest of the kit, (header, downpipe, BOV tube) should be wrapped up shortly after.

First I just started reading this thread . Awesome . Have you thought about not stroking or boring the but hardening and lightening all the components . Like liter pistons shot peening the rods and litening them to . Cryogenic hardening the valve . lighter makes the engine rev quicker and respond quicker . harden the pistons and you can go nuts with psi if you want . I'm NO engine builder but I have spoken to a few in my days and when they can't crank up the displacement they start lightening things . Just a suggestion . As I said I'm not finished reading the thread yet .
Im partial to the Family ZERO platform and both the Cruze and Sonic. Mainly because it closely reminds me of what was happening when I was into DSMs waaaaaay back in 1993-94. It took more than a decade to start really pulling power out of the 4G63s. Eventually, the stock turbo almost went into the 10s (11.1) And thats running 15.3s in stock form.
Thats where I see this platform going. Not to numbers that low, but I know we will see more power out of these cars in near stock form. So many things happened in the past 20 years with the DSM platform, that I see a lot of growth with this one as well. It took more than 10 years to produce a stroker motor out of that platform, and what was funny was the fact that the base model came with a non turbo SOHC 2.4 liter. The 2.0 liter turbo head fit perfectly on the 2.4 liter block. It was the same block with an inch height added to the deck. Maybe we will get lucky and Chevy will introduce another vehicle with something similar where we can steal the block from that. IM interested in seeing 250+ HP and still getting 40MPG.

Spoke to Dave@DDMW. The Pistons are Wiseco and the rods are coming from K1 and a still a month out at least. In the meantime, I'm starting to work up a list of upgraded ARP fasteners for the build.
Some actual progress should start early summer. Trying to make a decision on the cams. I have a lead on a regrind, but I'm not ready to commit until I consult some pros on ideal love specs.

Hmm will these be one offs or can any of us buy them and thanks for the tip on getting a second engine didnt realize how inexpensive it could be.
