Notice that although many of us are big fans of the Trifecta tune, that nobody is saying mods are useless without that specific tune, rather, we are saying that SOME tune is needed. I can't tell you anything about how effective other tunes are, but I can tell you the Trifecta one is by itself the second biggest boost I've gotten on my Sonic, and that without it my conversion to Flexfuel as well as all my other power mods would be worthless. I have no real reason to believe HPT, VT, or any other tune wouldn't give similar results, at any rate I do know that the stock tune actively prevents mods from adding power... so even some hypothetical tune that did nothing but kill that aspect of the stock one would work for that purpose.

The stock tune is good for presenting you with a polite machine which delivers predictable power. Also, people are reporting that the stock tune (or a slightly altered version of it) may be more economical than Trifecta's "eco" tune. But if you're interested in having more power available, you need -something- to stop the stock tune from stopping you.

without a tune, you will gain absolutely nothing but noise. The Sonic is notorious for having a stock ECM that dumbs down the engine to keep a consistent drive, nullifying any mod you do.

It doesn't matter what tune you get, but you need one.
