Bumper Quick Release

The hole looks quite large and requires that large black retainer/push thing.

Is the hole so large so it accommodates the push retainer?

Or is the large hole needed so the bumper can be lined up easier..one needs some loose tolerance?

It looks good... great instructions.. 3/4 inch hole..at that point one is totally committed to finishing.

If you decide to install these latches on your bumper, you can buy a smaller set of latches or you can even go with a bigger set if you'd like. The holes that you will drill only have to be big enough to fit the latch that you choose, however, the holes have to be drilled in an exact location in order for the latches to line up perfectly with the pins.

I'm personally tempted to think of adding a few to the front bumper core and maybe making it fully quick detach


Or just using zip ties and a couple quick detach like racing teams do

Adding more quick release latches might be a little tricky and would maybe require a little engineering but if you can figure out how and where to install them, it would be a great idea.

How far is bumper skin from the bumper core? If it's not too far it should only be a simple drill and tap to do it

Just thinking off the top my head there though
I'd need to look around to find a good solid spot and personally that's a bit away because adulting sucks

But since its above the mustache and still on the skin ( the last I checked) mounting to or on a bracket on the bumper core and running it to the skin shouldn't be too hard


Have to open her up to put on my front tow hook anyway so once I get the latches and have the time I'll let you know

When you remove the bumper you will find a piece of a thick foam like bar that sits between the front crash bar and the mustache. This piece is about 2 to 3 inches thick. If you end up removing this foam bar and can fabricate some kind of bracket to mount the pins for the quick release latches, it would work.

If you end up doing this, please share it here with the rest of us. I'm sure that a few of us will follow what you come up with, if it looks good... [emoji6]

Being a broke student between jobs sucks

Literally 3+ places in the last week have either flat out ignored me or have promised a call then blown me off

Either way I need to fix my intake before I worry about my bumper

And I need zip ties for my battle damage I've been neglecting to at least "drift stich"

Etc etc etc
Life is being a pita but I'm loving my sonic

Keep your head up. Fighting the good fight now will give you lessons that you can share with others in the future.
Fixing up your Sonic is not as important as you getting through what you have to face right now. Don't give up, it will all payoff in the end.
