I suspect the greatest weight loss will come from the hatch, especially because I willnot be bringing the rear wiper (and motor) to the new party.

I'll have to put my flame suit on for this, but I'd prefer to paint the CF my body colour (on top at least) and look stock (with the body kit) and just get it for the weight savings. I'd put the wiper motor and washer in the CF hatch because I hate dirty windows. I'd just be saving 2-3 % in weight.

Since when does the rear wiper make a rear window look clean? It only highlights how filthy it is by contrasting it with a rainbow portion of clean window. If the window is dirty enough to become a visibility issue......... you wash the whole window.

I been rocking a bucket hatch that has no rear wiper for years and every couple of weeks I grab a paper towel and some soap and clean it... takes like 2 minutes.......literally.
My bigger reason for losing the wiper on the Sonic is because it is ugly, 2nd, unnecessary, and lastly, weighs a couple pounds.

I agree with the body color matching though, as I am a Sleeper fan.

I like the cf look but that is me. I am aware that these hoods can be painted and look good as a result. In fact at last November's SEMA several Sonics had what appeared to be the Seibon CF heat extracting hoods and all were painted the same color as the Sonic itself. I believe their makers brochures identified the hoods as Seibon CF hoods.

But the Sonic steel hood is so small all you will be saving is about 15lbs which would be significant if it was in the wheels or brakes or suspension but seems less significant in the body. But enough body parts replaced with CF - that would be truly significant weight savings. I say do it.

Having a clean bit of window to look through is something I'm picky about. Idk lol. It helps a lot if I can do it while driving and not lose time (I do long ass drives a LOT.)

CF Hood, hatch, and fenders will shave a total of about 40-45lbs off. CF battery will drop another 15lbs off and costs less than half the price of any individual CF body panel.

If weight savings is a big part of your build, don't overlook the battery.

That's really good to know and not surprising in the least. Now some of that weight will be offset with a 10" compact powered sub underneath the front seat lol and good door speakers and a double din head unit and possibly deadening material to keep the doors from buzzing.

Finally got her yesterday. Of course the first thing I did was the hood. I weighed the stock. It's 26.2 lbs.

Easiest 15 minute upgrade I've ever done.

The Hatch will have to wait for a week as I am going out of town for a much needed vacation.

I was wondering what you meant a while ago about the orangish black, because in my garage i didn't notice it...... but in direct sunlight I now understand what you meant.

I would love to see a White RS. I knew I liked this car in white and that is the sole reason I had to order it, because they couldn't find one that was LTZ 1.4T stick. It was worth the wait. Normally I don't like white cars, but it looks fresh and mean on the Sonic.

The weave wouldn't give off any color. Its black. If you are getting a colored sheen, its from the resin or the clear coat.

It's the resin, it has an amber hue. It gives it a wet glossy look.

Forgive me, but I did not know the difference. To me the amber hue (is that actually a real color) appears to be the weave.

The weave is the CF mesh. The resin is what holds it into a form. Amber is the hue that is mosrly transparent, think fossilized mosquito from Jurasic Park.
