Was driving home from work to install my new cat back exhaust on Friday afternoon and about half home noticed my engine lite was on was like wtf anyways get home and check code its p0299 which is low boost turbo..ok so I clear the code install my cat back exhaust take for a test run..go down the street car ran good for about a mile or so then falls on its face..cars doesn't have any power and cant hardly get out of its own way.at first I am thinking this exhaust sucks I lost all power before it had good power I have trifecta advantage tune.also light comes back on.so I go back home put the stock tune back and drive it and no light drove about 45 mins .so I go back home and re download my tune and drive it for about hr and no light seems to have it power back now but no CEL now.i read up on p0299 code so I check the waste gate.i pull exhaust shield off so I can check it.not sure how to tell if it's worn .There is a lot of play when you push the rod back and forth and you can see a gap where the rod connects to the lever I'd say the rod has to move 30 to 40 thousands to move the waste gate lever not sure if that's normal so I drive to my Chevy dealer today to show them and of coarse nobody could look at it today I have to do it after work on Monday so the shop Forman can see it my car has 46k on it.the service guy was trying to say nothing he could do without the light being on..like I was lying to him or something so I explain the waste gate issue that these turbos seem to have plus you can research it all over internet..he seem put out ..and didn't want to help me today but was more than willing on Monday so I
guess I will see..if this turbo is bad I want it fixed just cause the code not there right now doesn't mean something not wrong or the light wouldn't have come on Friday multiple times but now it's not coming on so idk ..just hope they don't jerk me around about it does anybody have a video of what a bad one looks like??

If the code isn't on he is right it's nothing that can be done. It's covered for 100k so your good for some time

I'm going through the same thing with the code. My car is stock with about 75k miles.

I had the light come on and I cleared it myself, it was good for a couple days and it came back on. So I called the dealer and got an appointment for a couple days later. An the light went out the day before the appointment. I went anyway thinking they could see the code in the history and know what to do but all I got was "we seen the code was on but can't do anything because the lights not on and its not acting up." "Come back when the light is on and we can check it out."Then I get charged $40 for a diagnostic fee because they didn't find anything wrong.

It hasn't been on since last Tuesday so idk what's going on. And I'm afraid to take the heatshield off and check the actuator myself incasr they say someone messed with it and they won't warranty it.

To check it there are 3 bolts to take off the heat shield there is nothing that they could say you did that would void your warranty because the rod itself has a jb weld on the nut so they can tell if tampered with.. Mine has a lot of play in it. I am going to take mine in with it off and show the service manager the play in the rod that should be proof that a it's going bad I have seen others say they have shown the play and they have gone ahead and replaced the turbo. You would think they could just put a new rod in there and call it good but they replace whole unit.it looks like the rod hole itself gets worn out causing the excessive play and that cause the waste gate to not open and close properly or not function the way it should..

They charged you to check out a problem that's covered under warranty that's not right cause all they did was check a history in fact there is a bulletin that Chevy techs have to check when a customer brings the car In for the code and the procedure is exactly what I did remove heat shield and check for play and it states that if you can move the rod easily there is not sufficient pressure.fix is replace turbo.. Pretty plain and simple if you ask me

Also there really isn't even a problem with the turbo itself it's the mechanism that operates the waste gate that's bad but the fix is replace the unit..if they don't want to fix it I might find a way to fix the slop in the rod and then it should be good but I will find out tomorrow.i just hate the way the dealers do you on a problem that clearly right in there face but I will see tomorrow after work

I plan on showing them right in the service area so they won't charge me for something that has failed on the car. Apparently this is a problem on this engine and Chevy knows about it I asked the guy if they had any turbos in stock he said yeah we have a few of them actually so that tells me they replace them often..

Sorry guys to rant on about this but I think it's bs also..the service guy acted like you sure this is covered under power train I was like yeah where do these guys come from they know this car has 46k on it..then once I told him I bought the car from them he started to change like come in Monday and I will have the shop foreman come right out here to check this for you..he then ask me my name and set up and appt and told me if it needs to be changed out I would get a loaner car and he would have my car back Tuesday night.This is assuming they go ahead and fix it for me but who knows for sure he also said its a common prob on sonics and cruzes guy totally changed his outlook on my problem .it just makes me mad how they do you..

Well new turbo is being installed on my car no worries didn't have to fight about it shop Forman said your getting a new turbo so I am happy

At the time the car was completely stock as I removed the Trifecta tune several weeks before. Currently at 39k miles on a 2013 w/ auto. I've cleared it and haven't seen it come back yet. I have another road trip in two weeks so I'll see if it repeats again.

Got a call from dealer car will be done tomorrow also had to have a converter seal installed as well I am sure that was worse than changing the turbo. Hopefully it will be good as new

Well my P0299 is back on my car...
Going to call the dear AGAIN and get another appointment AGAIN but there is NOW WAY I will pay their $40 diagnostic fee again. They will either find what's wrong with it or I will show them how to do their job.

You should get your money back from the first time this is a known problem on these turbo cars and they should check your waste gate for play more than likely it has too much play..my car runs totally different then it did from when I bought it..you will have to stand your ground take off the heat shield and you will be able to see what it is doing..like a five minute job show a tech at the dealer..car has power train warranty to 5 yrs or 100k and the turbo is covered 100%

So for me the light is not coming on but I have an ultra gauge hooked in and it is saying pending trouble code p0299... But no light on my dash... Should I go in? And I have a ddm intake as well will that mess with any warranty's I have?

Of course, the CEL light went off again. Sad to say I hope it comes back on, since last time they checked it and said there was a code but they couldn't do anything because it wasn't on still.
