Very common. Boost compression I believe. The actual bore is smaller but that doesn't matter the block is the same size.
As for locking vs manual, I guess it's just a matter of opinion but to me the less you have automatic the better. Never been anywhere I couldn't take 30 seconds to spin the hubs.

Some people just can't get with the times.
30 seconds wasted doing something a machine can do for you now.
Put a crank on the engine. No reason to have an automatic starter that can fail or a battery to let you own.
I'm going to assume I'm one of few on the forum that has cranked an engine and I can say I prefer an automatic starter. It's going to be that time again soon and the battery in the "A" is shot for sure so cranking it will be.
Regarding 305 heads, wouldn't the valves also be smaller in those due to the smaller bore of the engine? I thought this was the entire reason a Chevy 302 produced more power than a 305 as well as a 327. Larger bore, larger valves and far better flowing? And no, Chevy 302 wasn't a typo.
